Beattie? - Wants a move in january!

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby ICE-MAN » Tue Dec 07, 2004 10:46 am

in todays papers,
"JAMES BEATTIE could have played his last game for Southampton after admitting he is ready to quit the club in the New Year, writes MARK IRWIN.

England striker Beattie has been ruled out for at least two weeks after aggravating a calf injury in Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Manchester United.

And Beattie, 26, made it clear he expects to leave St Mary’s when the transfer window opens in January.

He said: “The chairman’s stance has always been that if he gets the right offer, then I can leave.

“And if he is willing to sell me, I’ve got to have a look at it.

“I’ve had six great years here, I’ve been good for the club and the club’s been great for me. It would be an amicable split.”

i would definitely make a bid for him cos hes a brilliant six yard box striker who is also very good in the air, a €6million bid would prob get him, although he hasnt been banging in the goals this season, if he had half the chances that we are creating, he would put them all away, he is definitely someone we need if we cant get morientes!

I think he's a good lad and a good player but just too inconsistent for my liking, perhaps he could get a lot better as a player in a better team though but not sure I'd be willing to gamble on him... but if it was a last resort £6m would be an OK deal, but I assume Southampton will be holding out for at least £8m+

Fair enough comment. Good player without a doubt, great player.... nar.

Don't know if he could improve much. If we get him for the right price i won't complain. But he wouldn't be my first choice.

good player and could perhaps do well for us, but anything around 10 million for him would be too much and I would think that is what he would cost.

At a club like Liverpool James Beattie would be a backup. He is good in the air and has a good shot on him but he's nothing special, we'd probably get a similar player for cheaper elsewhere.

Not sure about him if he's good enough to play for us. He is a good player and £6m for him sound reasonble price to me.

He is a god player true, and also a late developer. In some ways he reminds me of Toshack - if we could get him for 5 million or less he would be a good signing.

Beattie. No way. Don't underestimate Benitez. He is smarter than that. Beattie doesn't have the pace and technical attributes to cut it at a top team. I would not be surprised if the fool Souness made a move for him.

for around €6million he would be a good squad player, i obviously dont think he should be a main starting striker, but he could be a different option up front, rafa has proved he can get the best out of most players, and look at alan smith im sorry we didnt get him during the summer, he maybe a manc now but hes brilliant to have coming off the bench, the same effect i reckon beattie could have!

i dont rate Beattie that much i dont believe he would be much of an improvment on baros and cisse, he would be a decent signing for around £5 mil but southampton would want more than £8 mil as they already rejected two bids from aston villa for £8 mil.

pace isnt everything, not all players have it or require it for that matter, players like Zidane and Shearer were never quick but you dont doubt there ability
