I think a lot of our fate depends not only on the progress we can make under Rafa, but also quite heavily on how far the likes of Chelsea can take themselves. It's one thing trying to close the gap, it's quite another if the teams ahead of you are still making progress themselves

very true on Chelsea wooly, if Abramovich hangs around for the long term then there is no limit tro how far they can go, beacuse no one can compete fiancially with them.

Hoepfully old Roman gets bored and leaves.

I'm sure the revenue well catch up with him at some point and he'll up sticks and go to Monaco or somewhere, leaving Chelsea in the lurch

It's going to take along long time for us to get back to dominating europe like we did in the 70s and 80s, we have to pateint and give Benitez time and money to buy the players he wants, if wer'e going to succeed.

Woollyback makes a great point: we could really really improve under Benitez but Chelsea could really take things to another level.

it is a worrying prospect because at the moment no one can compete with them in the transfer market, but as they say money isnt everything so it dosnt mean everything will go their way, well hopefully :cool:

This season Champions League qualification should be achievable and then next season a top 3 spot, then I think the players will be working together with Rafa as a cohesive unit, and we will be challenging for the title.

So I'd give it a few years yet. Show some restraint, some patience, some respect and a lot of faith and it will happen. :;):
