The tactical masterplan. - According to rafa.

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Thats what you get I guess when you have a bloke who's won what he has in charge. All us "experts" have spent hours debating the why's, the wherefore's and the "do you mind if I don'ts" and I don't think anybody predicted that formation and that style of play.
Absolutely ingenious. Carried out brilliantly of course by the players (FWIW I think the criticism of Kewell is a touch unfair today, he did OK) but the strategy was inspired. If you care about football and study the ins and outs like a lot of us do, you've got to be impressed by that. Stu must have loved it, talk about building a system around the personel available. Fantastic. Rafa the genius.

Agreed Big Mick. Im highly impressed with the attitude the players had today, I wonder what he said to them.

Looked at that thread where we predicted our line-up, I dont think I was too far out, swap Biscan for Sinema and play a 4-4-1-1 instead of my 4-1-4-1. Check yours here

Yeah you must have been just about the closest mate. I seem to remember Jim Morrison having something similar aswell. Key was though, how playing gerrard in between Vierra/Fabregas and Campbell/Toure caused their whole shape to implode. They ended up with Ljundberg and Pires getting sucked into the centre and being exposed defensively. Absolutely brilliant piece of tactical innovation in my view. Be interesting now what Wenger will do because you can bet that from now on teams will play that way against them until they've shown they have the answer to it. Might not be so easy if Bergkamp was to play in the hole for them and Reyes was to play wide left. Genius by Rafa though.

not that i generally view andy grays opinion with any great regard, it was wonderful too see him talk excitedly about liverpools formation and about the effect the tactics had on the opposition. I hope rafa continues to allow gerard the freedom to move between midfiel and the box and filling in the hole. It allowes alonso the freedom to express himself and given that stevie has only played a couple of games the energy he will bring to the role when he is 100% and I reckon rafa just might have pulled the masterstroke of the season. Absoutely delighted for him.(rafa).

The team I would like to see is

                       Kirkland

Finnan      Carragher       Hyypia       Riise

              Hamann         Alonso

      Garcia         Gerrard         Kewell

                        Mellor

Finnan and Riise are both good going forward and can provide width with Hamann and Alonso to sit and protect then Gerrard can join in the attack at every chance he gets.

I posted that as my team and formation for monaco.

Great minds think alike.
Smith to Shankly:My thigh is a bit sore, but I think I could play.
Shankly to Fagan:Tell him,Joe.He has got no chance of playing.
Smith to Fagan:Tell him to sod off.It is not his leg,it's mine.
Shankly to Smith:Oh no son.You are wrong, son. It is not your leg.
It is Liverpool Football Club's leg.
