When you have players on £ 65.000 a week can we expect them to play well? In two days he makes 18.500 which is a normal wage for normal people. In one year he gets 180 years worth of money for the average man. In 5 years he has about 1000 years of wages. His pay is not linked to his performance, the money just keeps on coming. He can not get fired, no matter how bad he does his job, and if he gets ill or injured the money just keeps coming. When his bank balance reaches 50 million pounds, he wants more, more, more. His hunger for football is long gone, he is pretty damn happy about himself. He has yet to win a throphy, but everytime he look at his many cars, his many houses and his bank balance he feels pride. And who cares about throphies anyway? Can we expect such a player to give 100%, can we expect him to feel emphaty with others, can we expect him to feel passionate about the club and the fans? When his club goes bust, will he not chose the line of least resistance and move somewhere else where the money still grows? This person will be stone cold, emotionless, he will go where the money takes him and he will always, always think on himself first.

So why expect more?

Players are paid far too much. Hence, the large nr of Foriegn players now in the UK attracted by the big buck's from TV money. The Club's are now suffering, but they also do not help the situation with all the loan deals which keep wages high in lieu of no transfer payments.
Manu, are currently negotiating player wages, based on performance in key revenue earning competitions.
These no-hay, no-pay deals will become more prevalent as club's wise up to the new Financial way of life in 21st century football.

the reason why kewell is getting paid 65k per week is becos of the 5 million transfer fee. If he was valued at 10 million, i am sure he would have been paid 45 to 50K.

I have no problems with footballers earning a lot. I mean, this is an issue of supply & demand. If you were in his position, do you think you will take a pay cut ?

Man, Kewell is getting a lot of heat all over the internet. Hope he gets his act sorted out soon. Kewell if you are reading this by any chance, pls go and get your ankle or knees operated.

Gotta say I don't buy this 'he aint trying, doesn't care stuff'. Its confidence for me. Could be that he'll never ever get it back but it's not a lack of desire in my view. Kewells just got that languid look about him, abit like Waddle. Sure he gets paid too much, they all do but when we signed him there were other clubs also willing to pay him what he wanted. That said, I think we should get rid if we can get 3-4 million for him.

I don't think it is a matter of Kewell not trying, things just don't seem to be running for him, the most logical thing to assume is that his confidence has been seriously dented and the injuries he is carrrying are further hindering him.

The best thing is to let him have his operation and don't come back untill he has made a full recovery, even if he is missing for months, we won't really miss him because he is not contributing much to miss.
