Arne Slot wants to bring David Hancko to Liverpool

Slot, who guided Feyenoord to both a league title and a KNVB Cup victory, reportedly believes Hancko would seamlessly slot into Liverpool’s defensive setup.

Ozturk, writing for Voetbal International, praised the defender, claiming he has the quality to play for top clubs and coaches. He added that Liverpool are one option with the Dutch manager keen on bringing him to Anfield.

He stated:

“There is a boy who should actually be playing for Atletico or Arsenal. That is why you are through [to the Round of 16].

“If they [other teams] can pick a Feyenoord player, top clubs and top coaches will end up with him. Where can he go? Liverpool! Arne Slot wants him of course. Why not Liverpool? You have to aim high; he is that good.”


Under contract with the Dutch club until 2028 and carrying a market value of €35 million, Hancko’s consistent form this season has certainly drawn attention. With 34  appearances across all competitions, alongside three goals and four assists, he’s proven to be a reliable force at both ends of the pitch.

Hancko’s career progression tells its own story of resilience and adaptability. After beginning with MŠK Žilina, where UEFA recognised him as one of the most promising talents of 2018, he earned a move to Fiorentina. Though he struggled to make a significant impact in Serie A, his loan to Sparta Prague became a turning point, leading to a permanent move and more than 100 appearances for the Czech side.

Since joining Feyenoord in 2022, Hancko has evolved into a defensive leader, combining solid tackles with composure on the ball—qualities that make him a natural fit for Slot’s tactical philosophy.

For Liverpool, landing Hancko could provide not only defensive reinforcement but also a player already attuned to Slot’s system.

However, they will face stiff competition with Premier League rivals Chelsea and Tottenham. Both London clubs were linked with a January move for him but a deal failed to materialise. They could renew their interest in the summer window.

I'd go for 3 players this summer, Isak from Newcastle and 2 lads from Wolves, Ait-Nouri the LB and that baller in midfield they've got, Cunha i think his name is. We are going to be losing Trent so we could do with bringing a bit of quality and creativity in.

Cunha although a good player is a hothead. He got another red card for headbutting. We don’t tend to sign players like that.

Isak will cost 150 million. I can't see it..

Great at scoring but age comes to play, he'll be 32 this year.

No thanks for me, you have to build a team for him and he slows things down too much for us, I think we need more pace in the team. He’d certainly be better than Nunez but that’s not saying much.

Please God No. Can't effing stand that lad and having to sit through his after match dribbling would be too much!!

Jeremie Frimpong

A former youth product of Manchester City’s academy, Frimpong has been the outstanding attacking right back in Europe over the last couple of seasons and has been pivotal to Bayer Leverkusen’s success under Xabi Alonso. Playing as a wing-back, Frimpong scored nine goals and made seven assists as Leverkusen won their first Bundesliga crown last season, and, according to FBref, Frimpong ranks in the top 99 percentile for non-penalty xG (expected goals) plus expected assists per game in Europe this year.

It’s clear the 24-year-old Netherlands international has impressive numbers, but Alonso’s Leverkusen shape a lot of their structure around Frimpong, enabling him to play as a right winger for the Bundesliga side. It’s unlikely that Arne Slot, who has only ever played with a back four at Liverpool, would change his system for Frimpong, but that is not to say the former Celtic defender could not adapt if Liverpool tried to sign him.

Denzel Dumfries

Another Dutchman, with title-winning experience at Inter, Dumfries secured his move to Italy on the back of an impressive Euro 2020 for the Netherlands and has been an integral part of their success since. Although he too is more of a wing-back, like Frimpong, Dumfries is a player who can dominate the flank through the timing and purposefulness of their attacking movements. His recent contract extension with Inter suggests he will not be on the move any time soon, however.

Timo Livramento

The 22-year-old recently impressed against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final, excelling against Mohamed Salah at Wembley. While Livramento is versatile and can play on both sides of the defence, he is primarily a right back and his development since joining Newcastle has led to an England call-up under Thomas Tuchel. A strong defender first and foremost, he is a good crosser and passer, potentially allowing him to link up well with Salah on the right wing. Newcastle would be unlikely to sell, though.

Pedro Porro

Another option that is closer to home, Porro is second to Alexander-Arnold shot-creating actions in the Premier League this season. They are not like-for-like, no one is, but the 25-year-old Spaniard comes closer than most. His role for Tottenham under Ange Postecoglou is a unique one that requires movements into midfield, which does often leave him exposed defensively. Should he play for Liverpool under Arne Slot, his position would likely be simplified, leaving him to focus on getting forward and over-lapping his winger. Again, Tottenham would be unlikely to sell, but Djed Spence’s re-emergence at Spurs may help.

Liverpool have held initial talks over the signing of Jeremie Frimpong, the PA news agency understands.

The right-sided Bayer Leverkusen wing-back or winger is one of Europe’s hottest properties and is understood to be of interest to the Reds, although sources have said talks are at an early stage.

Sources said the obvious ‘domino factor’ that could accelerate Liverpool’s interest would be Trent Alexander-Arnold moving to Real Madrid, amid reports a deal has now been agreed for the England international to join the European champions.

I hope there's equal focus on signing English and Scottish replacements, moving to the EPL is a massive step up for many of these foreign lads etc...
