Liverpool boss Arne Slot says his side cannot be called the best team in Europe until they have won the Champions League.

The Reds are in France to face in-form Paris St-Germain on Wednesday in the first leg of their last-16 tie.

Prior to the match, PSG head coach Luis Enrique described Slot's side as "an almost-perfect" team.

Liverpool topped the league phase of the Champions League and currently lead the Premier League by 13 points.

"It's a nice compliment to get but the best team in Europe has to win the Champions League but we are far away from that, starting with a very difficult game [against PSG]," Slot said.

"I think the best team in Europe at the moment is still Real Madrid as they won this competition last season.

"Someone else can say something different but, for us, we first have to win it before we can say it."

Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo is a big doubt for the game after picking up a knock on Tuesday.

The Netherlands international is the Reds' second-highest scorer this season with 16 goals in all competitions.

"He was close to being ready to play again but unfortunately yesterday he had to block a shot and he felt a bit of pain again," added Slot.

"We brought him with us to judge how if he can be part of the squad but it will be a close call."

---------------------------------

A win would be sweet but I'd take home a first leg draw. PSG look a decent unit. With Gakpo a doubt will most likely see Salah, Jota, Diaz.

Good thing we finished first in the league stage so we got an easy fixture  :glare:

Sadly it's gonna be a tough game so we'll need to bring our A game. We had a full week rest so I'd play the best players we have available and then rotate a bit against Southampton.

League is bread and butter, however no harm in being greedy and going for the other big one. I hope we can drift away in the league, which enables us to focus on UCL. Potentially could face some cracking ties with Villa (should go through) and Arsenal/one of Madrids. Imo the other end either Barca or Bayern will make it to the final.

PSG are different to the pima donnas they were even last year, I think it will be a tough match. If we keep it tight at the back we should have a good chance to counter attack them and with our forwards, we should score. I’d bet we would be exposed on Trent’s side so hopefully Konate has a stellar game, especially playing a French side.

This is some reward for being brilliant in the CL league stages. WHAT A GREAT NEW SYSTEM - NOT !! Mind you being in good form in a league where virtually the same team wins the title almost every year. It’s going to be interesting to see how PSG cope with a team that is riding high in the toughest league in the world.

No defensive mess ups will be key. But perhaps more importantly is to maximise our opportunities in attack.

Lucky not to be behind. I understand not being the better team away from home against a good side but it's been all PSG so far.
