Liverpool vs Man City 16:00 01/12

Liverpool Football Club - Games

Superb result, we should've been well ahead in first half. 13 games in and to be 9 points ahead, 11 of City is remarkable. Beating Real and City in one week, wouldn't have thought of that.

Van Dijk MOTM but could have been a few others. Szoboszlai, Mac & Gravenberch also in with a shout.

Brilliant result!!

Dom and Ryan put Herculean shifts in.
There's still a hell of a long way to go, we are only about a third of the way through the season but the gap is such that our rivals are walking along a tightrope, they pretty much have to play mistake free football from now on which is not easy when you are under pressure. We are under pressure ourselves of course, blowing it from here would be disasterous, but its a different type of pressure, even if we do have a major blip we'll still be in the title race. We'll have a chance to re-group and come again, we'll have a second bite of the cherry, our rivals havent got that luxury.

Slot has been managing the squad really well thus far. Not a fan of Jones but he's done really well. Thought Gomez looked really solid as well today but the main point is that we aren't or don't look to be weaker through rotation.

Agree we can afford a bit of a blip with the lead we have. Looks like we will be top on Christmas day again but as we know no guarantee of winning it from there. I fear burnout more than any team in that league or Europe at the minute. Think Slot has his homework done on us before he came and it's paying dividends.  Absolutely loving the football this season and we are value for every bit of it.  :buttrock

Great game, Gakpo, Gravenberch, Maca, Slobbo all playing like world class players. Good to see Big Joe and Quansah slip back into the team like they've never been away. Kelleher imperious along with VVD and Robbo. TAA unable to handle Doku... as usual.

But all credit to Slot and his coaching staff who have had the steepest learning curve of all. Happy days lads... don't forget to enjoy it.

Jurgen Klopp gave 58 Liverpool Academy players their debuts in his 9 years as Liverpool manager.
Yesterday 4 of them played against Manchester City at the top of their profession: Kelleher, TAA, Jones and Quansah.
Young Bradley knocked seven bells out of Mbappe mid week.
Ben Doak is on fire whilst on loan and will spice things up on his return.

United burnt out, and City crumbling because there were no succession plans.  Klopp into Slot, Hendo and group into who we have today.
This is the spirit of Shankly, we will always be better.

Great post Reg and a real reminder that you don’t necessarily need to go out and spend crazy amounts of money to get some really good players. As much as I love Darwin’s desire he hasn’t quite achieved what we were expecting from a striker and let’s face it there is a very strong possibility that he will cost us €85m !! Dominik Szoboszla also cost €70m !! Both decent players but looking very expensive compared to what we are bringing out of the academy. Kelleher is looking like a £60m plus goalkeeper. A lot of people including myself have criticised FSG for not being more ambitious in the transfer market especially after winning the the CL. Yes FSG like the owners of many clubs have made mistakes but they have proved on so many occasions that they get the vast majority of things right.
Net Spend Over The Last 5 Years (10 years
are in brackets)
LFC £300m (£420m)
Everton +£33m (£211m)
Arsenal £557m (£853m)
Spurs £545m (£657m)
Chelsea £966m (£1072m)
Man City £165m (£833m)
Man United £650m (£1204m)

That's a very poignant post mate.
I've been watching and following the results of the youth teams. U18, U21 etc. The results and form isn't exactly inspiring I have to say. A couple of lads look promising but overall one would hope for better.
Not suggesting Slot should rush to include them or give them a senior call up just yet, maybe for the Carabao Cup or something, but it would be nice to see a couple of lads come through
