We are in first place come January and humming along nicely and it becomes clear that VVD, Salah and Trent are not going to renew their contracts. Do we sell them for what ever we get and risk destabilizing a team that could win the title (and no certainty there) or keep them here for one last go at winning the title and see them leave for free in the summer. That dilemma may happen in 45 or so days and will be a tough one for management to solve.
Selling them in January won't be as easy as it seems. Who would want to buy them with only 6 months on their contract? How much could we even get for them with such a short contract left and at that age? And will they want to leave?
We can't sell them in Jan IMO but even if it were possible I'd much rather keep them until the end of the season because without Mo and Virgil we're not winning anything, with them there is a chance of some silverware. That's more valuable than the peanuts we would get for them in Jan. For Trent I don't really care that much. Same goes for him, I don't think we can sell him in Jan but let's say hypothetically we get offerd decent money, I might take them.
Having said all that, I hope the executives up there don't destroy the entire core of our team right after Slot's first season, who are the main reason why he's had such a good start. I hope we keep at least two of the three players that are running out of contract. Especially looking at the players we want to replace them with, not impressed at all. Forget the likes of Gyökeres, we won't be in for players like him even if we win a bunch of titles. So I'd rather we keep what we have for a few more seasons even at that age.
