Liverpool V Brentford Sun 25th @16.30

Liverpool Football Club - Games

Postby red till i die!! » Sat Aug 24, 2024 8:16 pm

1st game at Anfield for Slot so going to be special. Think we have won our last 11 starting matches at home as well so hoping that continues. It's van dijks 100th home match with a record of W 82, D 16 & L 2. We have also won our last 5 against Brentford without conceding.

I'd go with the same 11 V Ipswich and hope we are in a position to make changes early. Looking forward to seeing Gravenberch perform in that role again to build up consistency.  Pretty sure we will see Fabio at some point but maybe too soon for Sepp.

Il go 3.0  :buttrock

It's absolutely critical that we win all our home games especially those against teams outside the top 6. We have got to beat the teams we should be beating on paper, we cant afford to fritter away cheap points.
Arsenal had a massive win earlier today against one of the few teams to beat them last year and its important that this year of all years we match them stride for stride. There's a better than average chance that City will be docked points this season so we could well end up finding ourselves locked in an arm wrestle with the Gunner's for the title. We cant let them get away from us. Pity Villa couldnt at least have got a draw out of them.

I think we certainly need to win. Not so much about keeping up with Arsenal but more to get the supporters behind Slot as that will give him more power. I think a string of wins will definitely help a new manager coming in to replace a legend.

I do think city will be docked points but I also see Arsenal as very emotional and could over peak and as usual lose out in the end. I do see them as a good team that have strengthened well but too much emotion too early isn’t good. You look at City year in and year out and they start sluggishly but by the end of the season they are flying, Arsenal tend to peak too soon historically.

String some wins together and keep up and anything could happen this year. Most important thing is the fans get behind the new manager and winning guarantees that.

Same starting lineup as last week with the exception being Konate in for Quansah.  Both Carvalho and Sepp make Brentfords bench.

Comfortable first half.. controlled majority of the game. I'm just abit worried that when we give the ball away cheaply we look wide open for a counter attack. Gravenberch and Szoboszlai both had a lapse in concentration that nearly caught us out with counters.

But yeah happy with the first half.

It was a good performance but not great imo. Think it might take a while for us to adjust the intensity we have been used to. We where in full control throughout and other than the header they didn't trouble us.

Good goal from Diaz and Mo with the classic Mo finish. Thought Jota was poor tbh so hopefully Nunez can find some form as he can be a handful when on the pitch. Another good outing for Gravenberch as well.

Next week will be a bigger test as Utd don't look to have as many donkeys as Brentford.

Crowd very subdued from what I could see. Maybe it's the non-reaction to the manager's passive demeanour?

Good result and decent performance, but strange atmosphere. A real post-Klopp hangover and it’ll take some time for things to adjust.

That's 2 solid wins out of 2. We'll have more of an idea where we are at next week but so far so good.

We owe manure a couple from last year. Not that it woukd have made a difference at the end of the season but that scrappy loss at the end of the year really put the last nail in the coffin.
Mind you, it's almost like next week is made for Nunez to start and cause chaos right from kickoff but I don't think this manager trusts him. Or Endo. Dunno where Jones was today but thankfully not on the pitch

"Both Ipswich and Brentford deserve respect for the way they’ve played against us but I’m not expecting the two to be in the top six at the end of the season."

Slot may be right about this. I personally don't think he should be saying that though...
