I think Jota is a far superior player than Nunez and while Nunez has size going for him, I’d probably always choose him over Nunez. Jota is a clever player and our best header of the ball even though he is short. Good players don’t stop being good players but can be injured and not at their best. A few months ago everyone was saying he’s our best finisher and now he’s in a slump everyone is writing him off. Salah is 33 and in a contract dispute so a drop off could be expected, Jota I would say is certainly playing with a niggle as he’s not going to lose his technique which is high. I saw a stat which showed his strike rate is better than Salah. Jota’s conversion rate is 21.7% while Salah is 24.3% but Salah takes penalties.

As of April 2025, Mohamed Salah has scored 27 goals in the Premier League 2024/2025 season, with 9 of these being penalties. This means he has scored 18 non-penalty goals. Considering he has taken 108 shots in total, his non-penalty shot conversion rate is approximately 16.7%. This is calculated by dividing his 18 non-penalty goals by his total shots (18/108).
So according to the stats, even with his slump he’s a better finisher than Salah which is incredible as it sounds, Salah obviously chips in with more assists.
One thing I will say I noticed with Jota is he seems standoffish with team mates, even when he scores. He doesn’t look so popular among his team mate and sometimes looks awkward when celebrating, a little like Mane was. His biggest flaw though is his injury record. I don’t think he is a sicknote like Sturridge was, I think his size and aggressive play means he’ll often get kicked and suffer the consequence.
Nunez is not a smart player but would do well when you need an agent of chaos to smash things up a bit but he has no composure or guile, Nunez would miss a sitter, then score a worldie then miss a sitter, I think Jota is consistently a better player.
