Neville Bartos : Nah, forget about it.
Chopper : Because I don't know if you remember, Neville, but I had that bloody shotgun pointed at your head. I reconsidered and dropped it down to your kneecap. Remember?

I work in IT.  VoIP means Voice over Internet Protocol.

They were being given away as promotional gifts, so I swiped two of them.  Worth £60.00 each.  They plug into your PC via USB and you can call any land line in UK, USA, Ireland, France, Germany, Belgium, Nethrelands, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

Your voice is treated as data packets by your broadband line.  As far as your PC is concerned, it's normal data, but to the other person on another PC, land line or mobile, it a crystal clear conversation.  I've got it sussed.  Get onto it while you can.

But you still have to pay for you internet connection don't you Johhny?? International calls would be cheaper, and if you are using the phone a lot or have your internet payed for your sorted.... otherwise does it work out much cheaper??

Obviously you need an internet connection.  But I've got an Internet connection AND a phone.  So I'm paying twice.  Why not just have one bill and make all of your calls through the Internet?

I'm going to see how good this is for a month and not use my landline for calling out, (I don't mind receiving calls - for now, I'm still paying for the line rental remember, but I do want to receive calls when my PC is off)

Free works out much cheaper than anything.

The way my girl talks on the phone, believe me, we will be using this at home.

Obviously, VoIP is a new technology, it is big news for business, call centres, international trade etc....but wouldn't you use it residentially?  It's brilliant if you have kids who are always on the blower to their mates.

Tell them to install this software and you will notice the savings.
