What I find annoying is that we paid £25m for Thiago simply because Bayern Munich weren't prepared to let him go on a free. We have an appalling record of allowing top players to run their contracts right down and be sold for next to nothing or go on a free transfer. Gini now becomes the latest victim. Why do we let this happen? What am I missing? Surely a footballers contract doesn't allow this level of power and if it does it is a nonsense. There should be a clause allowing a club to sell a player unconditionally if said player constantly refuses to sign a new contract within 12 months of the contract expiring. The current player contractual conditions seem to be totally in favour of the player.

So no top players then as was suggested.
Every club has players that run out of contract.
Gini is prob the first top player since McManaman were we prob wanted the player to stay

Appalling record ? Gini and Can in recent years and before that the only one I can remember is McManaman - not exactly an appalling record of top players going for free

Sterling is my main reason for struggling to get behind England. Can’t abide the overpaid ..........

. Personally speaking i’m hoping England don’t even make it out of the group.

Well it depends what you would class as a top player doesnt it
I dont rate them as top players but the club did when they signed them and especially with the likes of Sturridge when they gave him a whopper contract after a year.
It isnt about top players either as it's about players leaving here for no fees when they should have been sold so the club can reinvest the money back into the team.
Spin it whatever way you want but its money lost on assets that shouldn't have been allowed to devalue to the point that it was zero.
If you owned a business you wouldnt leave stock to expire because its fooking stupid and costing you money and more when you have to replace it.
