The Midfield at lFc needs some fine tuning and games under their belt, the forward line is something that needas adressing but (And I think many may be surprised by this) I believe defence is where our greatest weakness lies. Hyppia has had a poor season by his own standards, Josemi has faded after a good start and Traore , although vastly improves isn't assured of a regualr start. Only Carra is solid but even he alone can't stop Liverpool conceding in almost every game they play ......In all but 2 Prem games this season we have conceded which makes it harder to win games having to score at least twice with an inexperienced and injured forward line ........

I agree. Some teams in the Premiership are in the same situation as we are as far is defence is concerned. We have one solid defender as you said [Jamie Carragher] but look at Manchester United, without Rio they would be even further down the Premiership table.

The thing about Hyypia is his lack of pace. I believe Traore can improve even more to the point that he will start in every game like Carragher. Josemi has been disapointing as of late because he isn't looking the same as he was when the season first started. In January Benitez has not only assured that he will buy a striker, but perhaps one or two defenders.

A lot of work is required all over the pitch.

I think Benitez will continue this season trying to implement his style and ideas among existing players, going his level best to try and keep things ticking along and hopefully secure a CL place and maybe a few good runs in the cups in order to secure the immediate financial security of the club and keep the fans happy. However, he has probably privately admitted to himself that he requires 4 or 5 new players, a striker being his first priority in January before concentrating his hand on defenders in the summer.

Hopefully it will be a case where the existing players are good enough to re-qualify for the CL next year and show an overall improvement over last season, but there is only so much he can get from the likes of Biscan and Traore. Both of these guys have massively improved, but realistically, I do not see Igor Biscan lifting the Premiership trophy (as much as I'd like to see that).

As AB said, I'd expect Liverpool to mount a serious championship challenge next season, but if we are to be honest and objective here, even if Benitez' plans work out, we are still talking of at least another 2 or 3 seasons before we might actually win it, and thats going on the assumption that while Benitez does a fantastic jobm lack of funding will ultimately hinder him in the short term.

The wild card could be investment out of the blue which might allow him to take a few short cuts, but I'm afraid we are all in this for the long haul.

Our defence isn't as bad as it seems. We kept 3 clean sheets which is pretty descent, we've conceeded the same amount of goals as Arsenal have. Man Utd., Chelsea and Everton are the only ones above us who have conceeded less goals than we have.

Ah correction, those are the only three teams that have conceeded less that are ABOVE us in the Premiership. But those who have conceeded less that are below us have not been able to score as many goals as we have [18].

Our defence isn't great but it sure as hell isn't poor as ****** either compared to some others.
