I bought a 50" Panasonic Viera flat screen tv about 5.1/2 years ago and just recently the screen has developed problems, the colours go a light pink, sometimes a light green. After a few minutes it flips back to normal.

Any idea how long a modern tv should last? The standard guarantee has expired but don't these have a lifetime guarantee etc..? It was top spec at the time and sure wasn't cheap and feel it should last longer as we don't watch the box that much.

Thanks for any advise. Naturally the lads are screaming for a new one... 'Go on dad, lets get a 65"..."   

My son had a top range Panasonic TV that went tits up after just 2 and a bit years Reg so maybe yours did well to keep going for five and a half 

I've had an LG for about three years now, still looking as good as the day I bought it.

I think as a general rule most TV's should last at least 10 years + without developing any faults.

I would have thought that 10 years was reasonable as well Woof, I'm off to the shop tomorrow to do my best Victor Meldew impression.

Not sure if it is related to your problem Reg but worth investigating nonetheless.

They're usually as good as gone once they go pink, from what I've heard (happened to me once but with an older tv that lasted a lot longer)

It's pretty much the rule these days that TVs (and pretty much every other product) last until the guarantee expires.

It's a light pink for 30 secs then goes normal again, I guess its on the way out but what a hooper.

I suspect leaving it on standby as opposed to turning the power off contributes to this?

Is it a transgender TV you have after all? All those years of 'man stuff' like footie, now the TV has gone pink and girlie...

I was conned by my son, the little b'stard.

The tv was fine, it was the cable tv box that was knackered and he knew it so was telling me the tv was on the blink to get a new one so he could take the old up into his room.  Little b'stard, I just chased him all round the house. I was worried sick for a month wondering where we were going to get the money from for a new tv...

I hate kids.

Glad you got it sorted Reg, all that remains now is too get rid of the kid

Oh I'm sure you can afford a new TV Reg  ... TV's nowadays are quite cheap if you're not looking for the latest cutting edge technology like OLED's and 4K... I think even LCD 4K's you could get it for around 2k SGD.

I finally replaced the tv! Got a Sony Bravia 55" which allows the downloading of apps, streams and has internet/netflix/youtube/prime built in so no need for apple tv etc.. Paid 1,300 quid equivilent including the sound bar and delivery. Great picture but damned if I know how to work the thing.

Don't worry Reg, yer kid will sort it out !
