Do we want to win the league?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Of course we want to win the league. 117,000,000 thrown at it says it all.

Football isn't safety in numbers, if we bought a class LB/CM/GK/ST, That's all we needed then you add depth by dropping what you already have to the bench, depth is about having a stronger 11 and a bench to rely on. Not by having 3 coutinho type players,  a ***** goal keeper and 100,000 centre backs to patch over dodgy defensive tactics.

I'm with Stu here I don't buy b@llocks 'depth in numbers' and 'youth' excuses.

If he's world class, buy him! not someone who might be good in 3 years time.

A kick in the b@llocks today was reading Shaqiri was close to joining but Bayern blocked it.  Imagine we'd got Shaqiri and Sanchez. Just imagine.

Dont rate shaquiri, we needed at least one centre back, a right back a keeper and a winger last summer, that that was before Luis was sold. As soon as he went we should have then realised the dynamics of the midfield needed too change as well meaning we also needed a quality midfield player and a striker.

Tevez, Begovic, Song, Wanyama, Schneiderlin, Darmian, there are shed loads of players we should have gone for to improve us, instead we end up blowing our money on rubbish and positions we didn't even need and then believe excuses that Sanchez wanted to live in London instead of Liverpool… it's quite odd that people actually buy it to be quite honest… makes me cringe hearing people say it

I think he could be very effective, similar in a way to Schurlle at Chelsea, Versitile and can play across the front 3 and put more than a shift in and chip in with the odd goal.  For the price that was being touted i can see it as a potential bargain.

You think money made Sanchez pick London?  I think he didn't want to be a part of any swap deal what so ever.

That's my point though Jud effective and what Schurle does, that's not going to improve us mate. If we have money over and can afford it at the end then do it. But it's not a priority. Mourinho knew they needed a midfield play maker and a top forward this summer and probably thought he was getting a slightly improved keeper as a bonus too…

So he went out and signed Costa and Cesc, two players who were miles better than what they had and they have changed Chelsea right around, there were other signings but look at the Remy deal, that was an after thought because of spare change.

I'm all for signings who will  improve the squad, but I you have to get players in first who will improve us out right. Personally I would look at our four weakest players every window and they are the next ones in, last year mignolet, Johnson and skrtel were the weakest links, they should have been replaced first with massive improvements. First team ready ones and not prospects or anything else.I Could have took a change in dynamics this season, but I wanted to see a much improvd back four and keeper and midfield. I don't think we were ever going to replace Luis, we should have concentrated on improving the rest of the side, we failed.

I like Lovren and Lallana and think both will be good for us but being honest, have they fixed any problems or made us better? No they haven't. Since Rodgers came in only Coutinho and Danny have, everyone else seems a downgrade

I thought you improve by getting in better than what you already have… not by bringing more of the same in… Maybe it's naive of me to expect better players to yield better results.

I heard it all before and all summer off Muppets telling how we've improved the squad… it's rubbish quite frankly… you improve your team…not your ""squad" anyone who thinks you will improve a league placing by increasing numbers rather than quality who is a deluded Muppet.

***** me right off that people buy into this rubbish

Stu mate... I agree with you. Tell me though, is today's team any better than Rafa's team with Fernando Torres.... no, it's way worse. So the ebbs and flows are happening under our noses mate, there's no consistency, our transfer trading is appalling. Simple as. And now we're back at square 1 again AND need to redevelop the stadium. Its sad, sad news.

I need a drink.

Conclusion: We should have got a director of football, he could have saved us 70 million a few weeks back.

It's way too soon to say our signings have failed completely. There are alot of new players trying to play the manager's system. If we go on like this and don't show any sign of improvement at all until the end of the season, then yes, I will hold up my hand and say that BR's signings have failed. At the moment, though, I would say that we do need a better keeper and a better striker, but I won't say that all the signings are complete failure...

We may not have a DoF, but as confirmed by Tony Evans, we do have a transfer committee (not sure who) - whereby Rodgers only represents 33% of the vote.

A physicist I once worked with said that everything is made of atoms, loads of them, and that they all move constantly in differing directions, and that if by slim chance all the atoms moved in the same direction, the object (let's say a desk) would fly, fast and hard in whatever direction the atoms moved. He attributed this to ghosties flinging things around. So it's not normally a ghost at all. It's simple science!
Why am I saying this? Well, it reminds me of last season and how many, many things all went in the same direction and propelled us to within touching distance of the title.
This season the atoms are all back to normal, wobbling all over the place, seemingly without rhyme or reason. Physics and chemistry are hugely important in everything, including football.
So pick any number of factors, squash them all together and you'll see our problem.

Science :D
