Well you know the saying: "You live by the sword, you die by it" Rodgers has certainly gambled tonight & run the risk of alienating the fans

This looks like an excersise in damage limitation to me, I reckon Brendan has gone with this second string XI in order to protect the likes of Gerrard, Johnson, Sterling, Lovren, Hendo etc from potential embaressment.
Everyone is expecting this scratch side to get hammered so if it happens it won't create too many headlines and maybe more importantly it won't crush morale the same way our first XI getting smashed would.

Its a no win situation as far as I'm concerned. We either get trashed and it piles more pressure on the manager and the team. Poor fckers he hung out to dry are blamed for being useless and we pretty much destroy any chance we had of qualifying from the group. If we get a positive result or performance, questions will be asked as to why the players out there arent picked against Chelsea.

Fck that. We're Liverpool. I can see this backfiring big time and I'm afraid a big loss here will really put Rodgers in a tough spot. The likes of Gerrard, Henderson and Sterling are at the club to play this sort of game. All the effort they put in last season to play the big European games against the best opposition and the manager goes out and benches them because he'd rather lose with a different side. Fck it.
