Well apparently Luis wanted to leave and there was nothing the club could do about it so you can't really blame us (although I still think that the owners wanted to sell him as well). And the plan was pretty good, sell Suarez and bring in Sanchez as his replacement plus money for a CB and whatever. That would have been phenomenal business, we had it all worked out well. But it didn't happen, Sanchez didn't want to come here, so now we're in a bit of panic I think. How many other available world class players are out there anyway? Bar di Maria I can't think of anyone else. The best we could do now is look for someone who is not necessarily a superstar but would fit in our playing style and would also score goals. Difficult period ahead of us, but I'm confident that Rodgers and his team will get it right.

What do you propose we do now anyway?

I for one am revelling in waiting for us and Rodgers to prove Stu wrong. Can't wait

To be fair to Stu Rodgers record in the transfer market hasn't exactly been stellar.
I suppose Rodgers counter argument to that would be that he hasn't had £75m to spend before either.
He's under a bit of pressure here though, if he waste's another pile of money in a similar vain to the last two summers then I think questions will start to be asked, especially if we start to struggle without Suarez.

Why not spend 75 million pounds on our scouting network?

We could operate like Porto, sell a 2 million player for 30 in 2 years.

£75m for a player that is going to miss the first 9 games of the season and will be almost 28 when he is allowed to kick a ball again is excellent business sense. We also don't know the long term affects of the recent surgery to his knee. Suarez, and it really saddens me to admit it, given that I have defended him very strongly for his past indiscretions, has become a complete and utter nuisance. His latest act of complete nonsense was was perhaps one of the most selfish acts of crass stupidity I have ever seen on a football pitch. Anybody that seriously believes that Luis didn't engineer this move to Barcelona and dramatically reduce his potential selling price needs to take a look at the lads history when it comes to getting what he wants when it comes to transfers. I'm not going to say good riddance regardless of how annoyed I feel. Luis has got what he wants and I just hope he is satisfied with his behaviour. In fairness he did at least give us the opportunity to get a reasonable price by signing a new contract but that is surely only part of the story.

Thats £73m spunked. Lets face it, out of all of those there is only a small arguement that Sahko and Allen aren't complete flops, even they were massively over payed for. For me, Shelvey could have done just as good a job as Allen so he wasn't exactly money well spent.

You cant count it as 73m spunked.

Sakho and Mignolet are an improvement on what we had.

If you are really writing off Alberto and especially ilori when they havent really had much time with us then you are proving me right in my hypothesis that you are just a wum without a clue

Selling Aspas and Borini now we would probably recoup atleast 10 million which is a better return then Chelsea would get if they were to sell Torres now

Stu you obviously only have negative things to say here so why dont you just write them down on a piece of paper and look at them whenever you feel sad to  cheer yourself up

Allen is a decent addition to the squad so I wouldn't go as far as to say he's been a waste of money but what I would concede is that I doubt he'd make most fans starting XI.
Ilorri looks like he could be a tremendous player but I'm not sure Brendan feels the same way, despite being fit he didn't kick a ball for us in pre-season and then he was unceremoniously dumped into the U21 side before being shown the door and sent out on loan. For a manager who is renowned for giving youth a chance and even started Jerome Sinclair in a first team fixture away at West Brom it is a bit odd the way such a bright talent has been handled thus far.
Sakho the jury is still out on, I think he could be a really good player for us but he does seem to have an impetuous streak, his rash challenge in the City game at Anfield being a prime example, Dzeko was going nowhere and there was no danger at all but Sakho scythed him down with a knee high challenge that should have been given as a pen. When the title is on the line you can do without your defenders having a shocking rush of blood to the head.
Overall though I would agree, it's not a great return on £73m, he needs to step his game up in the transfer market

What about the players we bought last season? BR do need to go for quality instead of quantity... for example, how about raiding Everton for Barkley? We should be looking at a long term replacement for Gerrard and future leader for the team. How about one of those German midfield players, Mueller, Khedira, Kroos, Schweinsteiger, Draxler or Goetze? Just getting one of them would improve the first team. We need to be really careful that we don't end up like Spurs did last season. Too many new players and the team could not click. How about bidding for Begovic?

Rodgers said he was looking for quality and not Quantity before we sold Suarez. So hopefully that big player is still to come.

I don't believe Mueller has to be worried about his place in the side... he is versatile and is a world cup star right now... he should be one of the first names on Bayern's team sheet...

The disadvantage of BR being Northern Irish is that there is no additional incentive for some of the world class players from different countries to join... a dutch manager like van Gaal could draw upon dutch players, a German manager German players, a Spanish manager Spanish players, a French manager french players etc...

Barkley is a great shout, we'd have to pay a fortune for him but I'd rather blow all the Suarez money on two players like Begovic and Barkley (who would be two of the first names down on our team sheet) than fritter it away on the likes of Bony, Rodriguez and Bertrand. Can you imagine Barkley teaming up with the likes of Markovic, Coutinho and Sterling? That's the way you kick on after losing a superstar, by signing the superstars of the future, not average squad fodder.

While I certainly don't view Allen to be useless, you have to question the wisdom of spending £15,000,000 on a player who is no better than Shelvey who was already here yakka. For me Yakka, that is spunking money up the wall.

By the way, the comment in the post above that Mignolet was an improvement on what we had?    I'd rather Gerrard played in goal quite honestly.

With regards to his transfer record its at best an embarrasment so far. With the Suarez money now he should go and spend this on three world class players. Begovic would be a definate for me. Kahdeira would also be a superb signing, he's a similar style to Henderson but a far far better player and also we need a world class striker. Someone like Tevez would fit the bill and ease the pain of losing one of the best players ever to pull on the shirt.

The point is though we're linked with absolute dross. Vorm, as decent as he is, and make no mistake, he's an improvement on the liability we have and a very capable keeper is too injury prone and is certainly not top class.

Bony, is quite frankly ***** and I wouldn't touch him with a barge poll.

Bertrand is a mid table player at best.

Ben Davies, never even heard of him.

Lovren is a quality defender and a leader and a player i like, but is absolutely not worth £20,000,000 and for me isn't exactly a superstar.

Its typical of our "transfer policy". We sign third rate players and hope for a diamond.

People defending the Alberto, Illori, Aspas, Mignolet and Borini signings are quite simply living in cloud cuckoo land. Players like that will win you f*ck all.

The lack of quality we're buying is alarming!!!

I think the introduction of 3/4 average players into our starting 11, with the loss of Suarez will hurt us massively.

You see the buzz signing a big name makes around the club (Alexis Arsenal, who are also linked with Khedira) who would both waltz into the 1st team making a massive improvement to a starting 11.

I fail to see how we've made (or are attempting to make) an improvement to our starting 11.

Replacing world class with players who finished 9th may improve our squad numbers, but not our starting 11!!!

In all honesty I think we were a decent centreback a full back and maybe a decent keeper away from winning the league, now I think the introduction of 3/4/5 average players with the loss of Suarez (still needing a centre back and full back) will disrupt the balance of the team and will take time to bed into Rodgers philosophy.  We will do well IMO to finish top 6 next season.

Our transfer policy is a shambles, and if Suarez was sold for £63M Ian Ayre needs to get his finger out his ar$e in Salt dogs in town we've been robbed!

Oh and if anyone thinks we'll sign James Rodriguez, you've got more chance of Elvis and Freddy Mercury knocking at your door asking to use your telephone.

I've watched a lot of Barkley and I'm still not sure on him yakka. At times mate he reminds me of Ronaldo, at others he reminds me of Luis Garcia. He's so careless in possession at times its scarey, he also doesn't put any swerve on his passes in his own half which makes them easy to intercept, at 19, this is a basic he should have grasped by now.

On saying that he does have tremendous potential. However, I'd have to question whether I think he'd be worth a place ahead of Coutinho and the answer to that I'm not so sure of.

I do agree though, the way to recover is shopping in the right places and signing the right quality.

Why not go for Toure, Aguero, Kompany, Robben and the likes, send statements out we're looking to sign top class international players who'll improve us instead of third rate dross like Bony!
