Lyon defender edmilson - Could he be heading for anfield?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

According to the football transfer rumour website (www.football-rumours.com/), Liverpool have expressed their interest in signing the Lyon and Brazilian defender Edmilson. If this is true then I would welcome the signing because as the football cliche goes: 'when assembling a good side you need to work from the back' and our defence (a) needs cover and (b) needs strenthening.

Edmilson is a regular Brazilian International player who starred in 6 out of 7 of Brazil's World Cup matches. He scored a wonderful goal against Costa Rica in the competition. To refresh your memory, check out the link below:

Brazillian defenders are not generally known for their defensive prowess, although 2 very famous ones can defend fairly well but can attack a hell lot better - Cafu and Roberto Carlos. If I recall correctly, Brazil's recent world cup successes (1994 and 2002), relies more on good defensive midfielders doing a good covering job - Dunga, Marcio Santos (is he a defender or midfielder? Can't remember) in 1994 and Gilberto Silva and Kleberson (more attack minded) in 2002 - which freed their other players like Cafu and Roberto Carlos to attack.
I just hope that he would be suited to the hustle and bustle in the premiership. Otherwise, get a really good British defender like Southgate although he is a bit old now.
