And Masher was also a lot more than just a tackler. He was also more comfortable on the ball than De Jong.

Meanwhile my opinion

1. No he isn't
2. No he wasn't

Case closed .

Always thought Mascha was a luxury player against anything other than the very top teams. Smashed it up brilliantly but did very little else. He is playing centre back for Barca because he is limited and not because there isn't a place available in the midfield. Even as a centre back you can expect virtually one serious mistake in almost every game.
Net Spend Over The Last 5 Years 20/21 to 24/25  (10 years
are in brackets 15/16 to 24/25 )

Arsenal €557m (€853m)
Spurs €571m (€684m)
Chelsea €945m (€1051m)
Man City €370m (€1038m)
Man United €687m (€1240m)

He played CB but moved forward to play as a DM during the game. Barce play a very high line and the position he takes up is virtually as a DM. In the midfield he is behind the best holding player in the game - Busquets and the other two spots are taken up by Xavi and Iniesta.

Masher for us was top quality and did more than smash it up when alongside Xabi. He was outstanding whilst with us.

I can't understand why previous proven players are now on the receiving end of critisim. They proved themselves where it matters - on the pitch.

Luxury player is probably the wrong description. Limited isn't.

The lad was a good player, but he was no world beater. The amount on here that would have you believe he was is very strange.

Very overated for me. Think the fact he can't displace Busquets (who is good, not great) says alot.

Using the "What people say about players to back up points"

Pep Guardiola looked his inquisitor in the eye and replied without hesitation: "I would never, ever sell him and I wouldn't swap him for anyone." Nothing unusual there, you might think, but Guardiola was not talking about Leo Messi, Andrés Iniesta or Xavi Hernández. He wasn't talking about Dani Alves or Sergio Busquets; he wasn't even talking about Cesc Fàbregas. He was talking about Javier Mascherano. And his words were not empty ones. Guardiola meant it. It is time to revise those easy assumptions.

There will always exist certain factions who remain nonplussed as to why he is so lauded by those with 20/20 vision ,it must be a real source of concern
to be that visually impaired ,and I've nothing but sympathy for the afflicted few. :D

So,with that in mind

I'm sorry Stu but you can't dismiss what Pep has said or we can dismiss everything everyone has said about Scholes. You can't have it both ways.

Against Arsenal we seen exactly what Lucas is, and that is not good enough.

Time for a change of personal I think.

Is you're judging by that performance against Arsenal then Gerrard sits next to Lucas on the bench.

If you want to change personel who comes into midfield for Lucas then.

Gerrard contributes, Lucas doesn't.

The lad has never been good enough.

For you to rate him above Barry in another thread is absolutely laughable.

Next you'll be telling me Sturridge is in the same class as van Persie, Rooney and Suarez...

Oh wait... you've said that as well...     :buttrock
