There is no agenda what so ever.

NONE!

The lad had a good game, I've said that time and time again. I have no problem admitting when someone performs well and yesterday he played well, he made some good tackles and positioned himself well through out the game. What I find laughable is that people are now completely over hyping the lad beyond all recognition. He's nothing more than a decent player, he's never going to be anything else and when people start talking about him as the "first name on the team sheet" and other stupid accolades like that then it is a very sad situation to be in.

So to summarise he didn't concede the penalty which wasn't really a penalty anyway

A midfielder who's reading of the game is nothing more than decent, isn't particularly quick, cannot go past a player, isn't great in the air, doesn't have a great shot, doesn't set goals up or score goals and doesn't pass a ball more than 30 yards is now considered by people as "one of the first names on the team sheet" and some sort of excellent midfielder?

Yeah of course,

Because Lucas is quick, has a great touch, pings a ball all over the pitch, scores loads and sets loads up, is better than Sami Hyypia in the air and goes past players for fun... And never gives away stupid free kicks... also he never gets booked.

You really rate a player who is the best in the league at nothing?

Yeah, so you keep saying...

Just to clarify...

Do you think Lucas can go past a man? Is quick? Does score and set goals up? Is excellent in the air? Has an outstanding first touch and can pass a ball more than 30 yards?

I can see Lucas as the lynch pin of the midfield at this moment...I certainly don't expect him to score because that is not why he is on the pitch...he wins more than his fair share of headers, so the stats say...he is quicker than you give him credit for probably because he reads the game better ...he does have a good first touch..if a pass requires 30 yards then I've no doubt he would try it...and he is also big and f**kin hard.......

And thankfully the people that matter  value him , those that are clueless will forever remain so

"He's not their to score"? He's playing centre midfield lad. Not in goal. Its not unreasonable to expect  3 or 4 goals a season from a midfielder. Lucas struggles to get 1.

He occassionally wins headers against average midfielders... wouldn't exactly say he's good in the air though really, he doesn't exactly dominate in either box or win them all in the centre of the park.

He's quicker than I give him credit for? Really? He's average premier league paced at very best.

Reads the game? Really? Big difference in reading a game and reacting to something. Lucas reacts, he doesn't pin teams back in their own half like Alonso used to do by picking up clearances and recycling possession in the opposition half. He also doesn't find players in threatening positions that allows pressure to build.

He's big and f*cking hard? He's about 5'9/10 and probably ten stone wet through... dead big! (another Steven Gerrard referance)

Apart from that, good post!

To add to that, if he is our "best midfielder" as you claim... (laughable) then thats probably why we're struggling to even finish in the uefa cup places (let alone the champions league) since he became a regular.

Makaele scored 4 goals in 11 seasons and he played centre midfield, didn't win many headers , wasnt a hard man ,wasn't particularly pacey,  didn't pin opposition back in their own half , didn't spray the ball around but was a great reader of the game who positional sense was superb

Yet you called him world class in the same bracket as Gerrard.

Thats the exact reason you're on ignore!!!

Makelele "didn't win many headers , wasnt a hard man ,wasn't particularly pacey,  didn't pin opposition back in their own half , didn't spray the ball around"...

Obviously it isn't what he did IMO hence why I mentioned it.

Remember you said you expect a centre mid to score. 3 or 4 a season - how many a season did Makalele score ?

Just out of curiousity have you ever seen Makelele play? Just want to be sure we're talking about the same player.

Not sure what Makelele you remember Stu. But the Makelele who played for Madrid and Chelsea won very few headers and rarely scored. In fact when Madrid let him go Perez was quoted saying -

“We will not miss Makelele. His technique is average, he lacks the speed and skill to take the ball past opponents, and ninety percent of his distribution either goes backwards or sideways. He wasn’t a header of the ball and he rarely passed the ball more than three metres.”

How wrong Perez was and you are, albeit for different reasons.
