Faded a bit second half again. He was still far better than Gerrard though. The two of them as a pair doesn't work.

Agree with that. I think Gerrard is tending to sit back nowadays as he can't get about the pitch like he used to and it is kind of stepping on Lucas's toes. Would definately like someone in there who can pick up the ball and run with it and take play up the pitch, in the Yaya Toure/Dembele mould. Powerful player who is had to knock off the ball. Allen and Hendo are not those kind of players.

Lucas alongside someone like Dembele would be a very good partnership IMO

I think the lads starting to make Spearing look a good option in all honesty. Been awful so far this season and contributed nothing. The efforts there as always, but he's looked so far off the pace at times for me.

Also think if we did bring in that powerful midfielder, we could rotate Gerrard and keep him fresh to get best out of him. Gerrard still has loads to offer but I think we should manage his playing time efficiently. His game has always been all action, taking the game by the scruff of the neck and having a direct influence on it. Obviously as his got older, that is harder to do but he still has lots to offer but think we need to be more selective with how we utilise him to keep him fresh and get the best out of him

Before he was withdrawn, I genuinely thought Lucas was having one of his best games of the season .I know he was on a yellow ,but the
wrong midfielder left the pitch imo .

He'd thrive more with more mobile players around him, i.e. Henderson. Whilst they weren't the best players in the world, Lucas' best form in a Liverpool shirt (2010-11) came when he had Spearing and Meireles next to him doing most of the leg work.

Lucas was awful last night and has been all season, the guy literally offers nothing going forward, cant make the basic attacking passes and is miles of the pace with what supposed to be his speciality which is closing down. Yellow cards and backward passes that’s the sum of his contribution this season, he needs dropping asap, pity we don’t have anyone to drop him for! Absolutely fed up of watching this completely average player year after year in one of the most important positions on the pitch

Called up to the Brazil squad.

Scolari is obviously clueless. What has he ever won apart from the World Cup?

Sorry yeah, forgot you need a world cup winners medal to tell that Lucas is a distinctly average and overated player.

If all these players that play for Liverpool were as good as the fans make them out to be we'd be better than Barcelona and Bayern Munchen!

Jo has been doing very well in Brazil and for the national team in recent years.

If your getting picked for Brazil currently then you are going to have something about you.

When it comes to Lucas - I think the easiest way to illustrate how important he is to the team is too look at the results when he doesn't play in recent seasons. Not very favourable. What he does need is a partner with more stamina and physical presence about him.

:D

He obviously sees the sideways pass as an essential part of the make up of a player utilised solely as a defensive midfielder.
Either that or he can actually ascertain when a player is currently showing good form for his club. .......Shudder the thought
that there are people out there who can actually do that.  :;):

I thought as a "DM" or DMCRDCA or whatever the f*ck you lot call it these days this was supposed to be down to him to provide? When I grew up you had two central midfielders, one who could run alot, tackle and head, the other who could pass, play and create. Both could adapt to doing the other job if needed and you worked as a partnership.

Lucas provides neither of these options...
