coincidence that Lucas improvement has coincided with our decline as a
team, he’s nowhere near the level of Mascherano, Alonso or even Sissoko. He
looks better because he’s the only DM we have and he’s plays every game, however if we don’t improve on him with a proper DM we wont ever get back to where we were even a few years ago.

Great attitude, excellent desire, downright good bloke, probably far better than average but certainly not great.

Totally agree that when a player has been very poor and shows serious signs of improvement it is very easy to get carried away. I am definitely in that camp with Downing and to a lesser extent Henderson.

So for those of you who believe that Lucus isn’t good enough and average,  how do you think he compares to other DMs like Carrick, Garcia, Mikel, Flamini, Arteta, Capoue, Sandro and Barry?

I think he compares very favourably

Better than - Mikel , Flamini , Barry and Garcia

Think Carrick and Arteta are slightly better because of their passing

And on the same level as Sandro and Capoue

Hes garbage end of story, and should be out on loan. those of you who rate him, I dont see what he does thats so amazing. Hes slow, cra*p at tackling, one dimensional, and poor generally.
How does he keep getting a starting place in the side?? Is it because we only have Allen to replace him?
A waste of space.

He's consistently been amongst the players with the highest number of tackles per game over the last couple of seasons. His ability to begin attacking moves is his big weakness but he is arguably more effective defensively than all the players I listed.

For the role he performs he's the most essential midfielder we have at the club, and his importance should never be devalued.

Over rated by Liverpool fans generally and because its a dirty job its low priority on the upgrade list.

Great club man and completely committed and that's why he is valued, but blinkers off he is way off the pace in terms of
being the best in that role in the Premiership and if he was teams would be scrambling for his signature.

In my opinion he is the weakest link in our team and stats are deceptive.

When we were playing our best under Kenny - Lucas was ever present - when he got injured the loss was very noticeable and getting someone in to replace/back up him was one of Kennys mistakes - it could also turn out to be one of BR's mistakes.

Lucas is under valued by fans ( just like Kuyt was ) but if he was missing again then you would notice it and his importance would become clear.

I wouldn't say that Carrick and Arteta are better than Lucas just because they're better passers. Lucas' tackling is far better than theirs.

It's a bit hard to argue about which players are better than him and which aren't because many of them have different qualities and do different jobs as a result, even though they play in the same position. But I know that one thing is for sure and that is that our team will struggle without Lucas on the pitch.

Not a patch on Carrick, Barry, Arteta or Flamini, he's at least a level or even two below all of those in terms of quality. The fact is that everyone has it in their head that he "does the dirty work" and "runs around alot" and "no-one appreciates how good he is" is irrelivant. Alonso covers more ground in a game, as does Gerrard. They also put just as many tackles and make more interceptions than Lucas and pick up more lose balls than Lucas ever will.

As a previous post said, not a bad squad player, but its the fact that he's become a regular (and not just him of course) that we are in our current predicament.

Just an extreme point (because that's how I roll :D )... Keane and Vieira played similar roles to Lucas... no-one ever would have "undervalued" them at any point or come out with the "yes but they do the side of the game only us special ones can see arguement". :;):

and that is why it is obvious you don't attend the games anymore because you are so ignorant...that's if you ever did attend :wwww
