Mista signs new Valencia contract

MADRID, Oct 30 (Reuters) - Valencia striker Mista has ended speculation about a possible move away from the club by extending his contract for an extra five years.

Mista, who was the club's top scorer when they won both the Spanish title and the UEFA Cup last season, had been linked by the media with a possible move to Liverpool to join up with former coach Rafa Benitez.

But after rejecting several initial offers of a contract renewal he eventually agreed to a new deal with Valencia which will run until 2010.

'The club and the player are both very satisfied that their wish to extend the deal has been realised,' Valencia said in a statement on their website on Saturday.

The 25-year-old player, who scored 19 league goals last season, has barely featured for the club this season after being forced to play second string to new recruit Marco Di Vaio.

Valencia, who have lost their last four games and crashed out of the King's Cup at the hands of second division Lleida in midweek, host Atletico Madrid on Saturday.

So with Mista being out of the picture who should we make a move for? Morientes?

i saw mista play for valencia when they lost 5-1 (to deportivo ?). He doesn't look that impressive. Reminds me a lot of heskey.... Maybe its good news we never got him.

Isn't dean bow.....(how u spell his name ?) coming from ipswich ?

Just sit tight, i have learned not to beleive anything until it actually happens...unless its like the Cisse case were he was a concrete move from the start.

I wasnt that fussed on Mista anyhow, theres definitely far better out there, besides i think Baros is going to bond with Cisse sooner rather than later and when they do it will be hard picking them apart to shove another striker in the picture...i also believe Pongolle will most likely be one for the future, hes a total live wire and deserves more games...the more games he gets the more he will impress imo, that in turn could set the cement off in regards to his first team position. I think at the minute we are only starting to gel as a team, and as we are doing this we are proving we dont need as many new signings as people initially thought, its like the Carragher situation, i wouldnt replace the lad with anyone at the moment even if it was a better quality player. However, i still think our defence needs strengthened...right back position, Josemi impressed me at the start, but my opinion of him is dipping and i dont think hes no better than Finnan...i would go as far as saying Finnan is a better option because hes more fluent going forward, im not saying by no means that the two players are bad, far from it. I just think we need someone better (maybe that could turn out to be Finnan with his recent form!). I think the left side is well covered now.

Were going to have to sign a striker now that Djibil is injured, felt so sorry for the lad cos he looks in agony

Mista nearly scored for Valencia there. Pity he changed his mind and signed a new contract for Valencia.

Aimar just got knocked unconsious. I thought he was dead for a minute, he didn't even look like he was breathing. Dangerous game football.

its bad news you lot never got the christmas present u all craved in mista but there is always hope at the end of the tunnel

p.s who said we wasn't gonna sign mista the name's coming back to me oh yeh it was me :laugh:

I wanna see bowdwitch in action I've heard good things but that's exactly it. Theres nothing i've seen to substanitate it. I wouldnt mind seeing him come here or maybe we could promote Mellor and give him some first team action, he played well against midwall, and deserves a run in the first team as Rafa had done with Warnock

Mellor did not play well against Millwall. He was really disappointing in that game. West Ham signed him on loan to complenent Defoe. Since the big guy small guy partnershipp of Mellor Defoe did not work they had to sign Brian Deane. And Deane/Defoe worked a lot better. Mellor will never make it. He is too slow and clumsy. Whitbread looks better, but he is not a striker.

Get ahold of yourself. Here we are in a need of another striker after what happened today and you had the nerve to laugh at us for thinking that Mista would sign with us.
