Shelveys reputation went up because he got a red card against the Mancs - for some reason after that he became twice the player he was before !

Offers of 8M+ and I'd offload

I love that. "The pitch": Part-time donkey who flatters to deceive, has a "charley big bollox" attitude -- £8m or f*ck off  :D

Not when we're buying unproven  talent from Spain at around the same cost.

Doesn't add up to me.

Liverpool agree fee of £6m for midfielder Jonjo Shelvey with Swansea City

Swansea City have agreed a £6 million fee with Liverpool for midfielder Jonjo Shelvey.
11:00PM BST 02 Jul 2013

The 21-year-old now looks set to move to Wales in pursuit of more regular football. A deal could go through by the weekend, recouping further funds for Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers.

Shelvey was a regular starter early last season but featured far less after January, particularly as Jordan Henderson regained some form.

A member of the England Under 21 squad and former Arsenal and West Ham trainee, Shelvey joined Liverpool from Charlton in 2010 and was called up by Roy Hodgson for full international honours last season.

Michael Laudrup has now identified his potential as he seeks to build on his excellent first season at The Liberty Stadium.
With Liverpool returning to pre-season on Tuesday, it was made clear to Shelvey the club would not stand in his way if the right bid came in offering an opportunity to develop his career elsewhere.

Norwich and Crystal Palace have also shown interest in the midfielder whose opportunities at Anfield are sure to be affected by the recent arrival of Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto from La Liga.

The lack of European football at Anfield this season means, barring injuries, only the League Cup offers an obvious starting opportunity for fringe players and even that competition will be taken more seriously by Rodgers this year given fewer early season commitments.

Swansea, in contrast, are in Europe and need to enhance their squad numbers. Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins confirmed Shelvey was a target. "There is an interest there and we are talking to Liverpool," he said.

Glad o see BR has returned a favour for Swansea.

6 million is kind of low for an English u21 international regular starter, considering we brought a Spanish kid from Segunda for the same amount of money. If he's making way for the arrival on Wanyama though, then I wouldn't complain.

There's also a huge possibility that we may regret selling him, at some point in the future.

To state the obvious, BR thinks the Spanish lad is 2 million better than Shelvey so I see no problem with that.

For the local lads that thought Jonjo is any good just take a look at the first few games Coutinho had with us last season.

Now let's take off the blinkers nice and slowly and admit that he just isn't good enough.

I posted on this same thread a few weeks / months ago that he hasn't shown anything in his time here to merit inclusion in our future plans.

The reason why this club has degressed in the last 24 years is because we take far too long to pull the trigger on mediocrity.

6 million is acceptable for a very average player.

Replacing him with more average players from a different country not so good. I'll reserve judgement on the new guys till they play but we already have Suso, Sterling and a long cast of youth projects.
