I was rather hopeful that we'd keep our team together this summer and just try to add a few quality additions for next season.  So far it looks like we were just kidding ourselves though and our better players all seem open to offers, should they come in.

Im so tired of our club not being in the CL or even in Europe at all.  And im sick of our best players always looking to leave.
Suppose we'll have to just wait and see what happens over the summer and next season.  If we do finish outside the top 4 again though, I will be all but convinced that we need the big money approach.
The likes of Bayern, Barca, Real, Chelsea, City and now Monaco/PSG have too much money for us to even compete.

If it were to happen, hopefully they would be sensible and keep BR and the academy etc as its currently running.

Agree - apart from I would look to bring in either a top class manager ( Klopp etc ) or a top class DoF

DO NOT FORGET.............  FSG could sell 25%+ of the club to the fans overnight if they wanted. I still don't understand why they don't go this route to raise $ for the new stadium without assuming excessive debt.

They are miles better than Twitt and Twatt but I will still never trust anyone like them to own the club I support with 100% confidence. If we are going to hover around our current league position with no real investment we might as well run the club ourselves.

Monaco just added £50mil Falcao to the £60mil purchase of Mountinho and Rodriguez !

Who would turn down the ability to improve our squad like that ! That's what these type of owners get you

Interesting idea Reg, is 25% the percentage allowed or your suggestion ? Has this been looked at ? How much are they looking for to develop the stadium ?

Relax all... FSG are in it for the long term. We will get there eventually. We just don't know when. Hopefully before I die but who knows.

Who was the last side to win the title that haven't spent a big deal of money and did it the "old way" ?! Leeds possibly in 92 ?

To win the league you need big money or big debt - unless you can show me a club that doesn't have either that has won the league in recent years.

How about Arsenal

rafa's valencia, twice!!

Whether it's Arsenal or Valencia you choose to use as an example for winning by not spending a lot the point is these are often exceptions rather than the norm. So us basing our proposed climb back into the top 4 on that strategy will most likely NOT work. It might, but given the limited number of times in the past it has worked it's probably safe to say our chances are slim.

Face it we need to spend a lot to get up to that level and we currently do not have the resources to do so.

Arsenal haven't actually won anything since they stopped spending

And in recent years they have certainly splashed the cash

If FSG are insistent on being self generating, signing kids, developing the youth, modelling on Arsenal, then in today's PL climate, 6th or 5th is the best we could finish. What they're doing is outdated and worked in the pre CL era but not today. To win the PL or at least top 4 finish, you need a brilliant manager and rich owners who will spend wisely. What do we have? We have a young unproven manager and we have owners who is going to fund the manager with 20M for the next window. I don't think this will get us anywhere. And what makes it a laughing stock was, a few months back, FSG were consulting Arsenal and manure on how to run a football club.

i heard on the radio the other day that uefa are looking into the format of the champions league because they fear it is creating a handful of super rich clubs who are making domestic league`s uncompetative. teams that qualify for the CL have a huge advantage over their domestic rivals and when uefa originally came up with the idea they thought it would be different teams qualifying every year but by and large over the past 15 seasons its been the same faces qualifying every year.
most of those big clubs already had an advantage over their domestic rivals but CL money has made the situation even worse.
uefa realise that even the most capitalist dog eat dog society in the world (the u.s) have structures in place (like the draft system, salary caps etc) to stop their sports becoming uncompetative. apparently if america had a footy style free for all culture no other cities would be able to compete with new york and los angeles.
by all accounts uefa are seriously concerned about it, they realise that when sports become uncompetative people start turning off in their droves.

Blimey have they just realised ? It's only been happening for decades

UEFA won't change much because they are driven by the money coming into the game

Sponsers want to see the big teams in the CL - they want to see Barce vs Munich as opposed to Wigan vs Albacete !!

UEFA created the problem themselves by bringing in the CL ( to increase popularity and get more money ) .

They can't complain about an animal they created.
