Andy Carroll signs for West Ham

The Premiership - General Discussion

Carroll was bought by Kenny and Comoli and if BR doesnt see him in his plans well then he shouldnt be at the club. Sure Carroll would give us something diffrent but there is no point in keeping a player on the bench for 2 games a year.

TBH Carroll shouldnt want to be here if all he is going to get is bench time with the last 5 minutes at the end. With the world cup next year im sure Andy would love to get in the england squad. He is going to impress Roy with his bench warming skills

Rumors about that swap deal for Ben-Arfa are getting stronger. Not sure I want that to happen to be honest. I think it would be the best for both parties if Carroll leaves the club, but I'm really not sure how I feel about signing Ben-Arfa.

I wouldn't entertain any kind of swap for Ben Arfa.  He's a quality player but too many injuries, another Kewell.  In fact I wouldn't even do business with Newcastle after their cheeky loan bid for Carroll after holding us to ransom to sign him for 35 mil.  If it came to it though, we have the upper hand in negotiations as Pardew seems really keen on him and I think Carroll probably wants to go back there.  We shouldn't be selling him for less than 15 mil.  Still can't believe we ever paid 35 :no

Ben Arfa is someone i would be very excited about coming here. Similar player to Countinho very exciting to watch and loves to take a man on.

Only downside is that he rates himself very highly and couldnt cope with a stint on the bench.

Ben Arfa will be alot more use to us then Caroll next year.

picking a front three next year from Suarez Sturridge Coutinho Downing and Ben Arfa would certainly be sending us in the right direction

Ben Arfa is Kewell MK2 - alarm bells should be ringing with his injury record. Don't go near him.

i dont even think he has played 40 games for newcastle since signing in 2010/11 season  :glare:
if we are that desperate to offload andy then they should lower the asking price and use the money somewhere else  :nod

the echo seems to think that carroll wont be back at anfield.
re ben arfa i think he`s a good player but i wouldnt mind us bringing in one or two different types of players just to give us options.
we seem to be trying to corner the market on small, technical, attacking players but personally i`d like to see at least one tall athletic player like diame come in.

Listening to Rodgers interview I got the impression Carroll's departure is as much about
his wages as it is his contribution to the team.

If he was earning half the money I think they would keep him they but don't think they are
getting value from the player on his current salary and will sacrifice him to pay two others
next season.

We've (now) got a decent array of technically skilled players but we're definitely lacking players who have a physical presence.

The manager seems to be making signings that fit his "tippy tappy" philosophy, whilst I'm happy with most of his signings I think overall, at present, he's built a squad that lacks balance, as does imo his "philosophy". We're looking good going forward but seem to be pretty vulnerable when teams are having a go at us. Unless we've managed to carve out a two goal cushion it's always a nail biter right up until the final whistle such is the current squads inability to exert any real authority in a game.

As the saying goes "a successful team is built from the back", something our manager so far seems to have ignored  :glare:

5 goals and an assist in his last 6 games (not including the one against us because he didn't play). If he scores or assists against Wigan on Saturday he might be named player of the month :D

I don't like Carroll as a player & he is the single most expensive mistake in LFC history but I'll take him over Boroni any day.

Carroll's movement may be limited but seeing our hotshot forwards wasting so many chances might be an idea to bring him in. Plan b, Long balls into the box, battering ram.. whatever you want to call it.

Carroll is an all round player and those who say he is limited on the floor are either stupid or blind. He took on the mancs in the air, on the deck, at their end and in front of his own goal with a display second to none this season. He was literally everywhere and caused mayhem for their defence as well as stopping their strikers on numerous occassions. I am gutted that there is no place for him in our team and I believe he will get better with age and maturity.
Whoever he goes to it will be our loss...
