He won't be fired. He'll be "ceremoniously discharged" once Roman gets his man.

I'm in two minds about this, really. I don't really like it, but it makes sense for Rafa in the short and long term. It'd be interesting to see what he does with a team like that. At the same time, it'll be exciting just to see him back in the PL. I hope he does well there and then resigns. It would be the perfect antidote for RA's sacking of decent managers antics. Oh, and Chelsea supporters are a bunch of classless w@nkers. Always have been, always will be. If anything, Rafa getting abuse off them will only endear him to our club even more. We paraded the man's portrait through the streets when he got appointed. What do they do? Chant abuse and start protests.

Well, tbf to Chelsea fans he did mock them about their plastic flags and passionless support - looking at it from their view do you really expect them to roll out the red carpet for him. Hodgson got s.hit for bemoaning our fans, by our fans, so isn't it reasonable that a manager who once mocked Chelsea fans, not bemoaned them mind but mocked them, be given a hostile reception?

In fact, this whole pantomime stinks. This is what football has become a pantomime. The fact he's taken this job, indicates his principles aren't that in sink with the whole "he gets us" rhetoric - in fact I'd like to hear more of what the goatee devotees have to say about this. I've only read what a great chance he has, and how he can now work with money and a star studied squad etc but what about the emotions re this signing? That's right they've been brushed under the carpet because it's Rafa and nobody (goatee devotees) will want to discuss this facet of the move he's made, hmmmmm.

I mean, RBG saying "hostilities aside," only Rafa could have fans saying things like this when signing for a club like Chelsea.

As a major fan of Rafa Benitez, I feel bitterly disappointed by this move and all I can say is that I care no longer for Rafa as much as I once did, I'm fully behind and in support of Brendan Rodgers who I believe with the right financial support and the right network of support around him can lead us to glory. In Brendan I trust.

Why should anyone be upset with Rafa for taking the job?  He never wanted to leave Liverpool in the first place.  In fact, as far as I know he still lives there because he loves the city etc.

The reality is, we sacked him and the job has been available twice since then and we didnt even consider him.

He does have a career to consider at the end of the day and this is a great opportunity for him to get back on the map.
Its completely different than say Torres, who chose them over us.

Chelsea fans are giving him abuse because they think he's a Sh*t manager rather than a Sh*t person. There's a huge difference there. And besides, what Rafa said was hardly untrue, now was it? They're nothing but a sh*thouse club with sh*thouse clueless fans. F*ck em.

Chelsea fans are vile. I cannot find a more appropriate word for them. Emerald is spot on in his assessment of them. They dont love football, they love sleaze, its what makes them what they are. If you come across a Chelsea supporter you can guarantee a shallow person, you can guarantee a vile person and you can guarantee you will not, under any circumstance, like them.

They are horrid.

The discussion isn't about whether Chelsea fans are vile though - that's a given.

Rafa mocked them and their plastic flags and passionless support, whether they're vile or sweet little fairies does anybody really expect the red carpet treatment after such comments. I don't care that he offends them, I don't care that they think he's a s.hit manager, however I do question his decision to join a club that he has mocked and rivalled after being Liverpool manager. I question his principles, of course the goatee devotees will never do this, instead they just discuss how vile Chelsea fans are? Completely swerving the fact that a "supposed" legend of LFC who had a bitter rivalry with Chelsea and their fans now joins them and starts singing to the Chav tune down in West London - very odd IMO.

Torres got absolutely smashed from pillar to post when he left us for Chelsea. He left us 50 million pounds better off on top of that. He never once stood shoulder to shoulder with Reds claiming Chelsea to be the anti-thesis of football, and sided with Liverpool fans like Rafa did proclaiming them to be a plastic passionless lot, yet Rafa is still deemed the legend and Torres the traitor - I just don't get the logic.

Loyalty and principles in today's game come a distant second in football to money and self centered-ness, I knew that, just didn't need Rafa to exacerbate it.

Saw this post on another site - posted by BigMick. Personally I think Mick is spot on when it comes to peoples undying love for Rafa (personally I think people feel he's bigger than the club, and in so much so many now wish Chelsea good luck in the prem, just look at that deluded lot  who are over moderated on RAWK, jesus wept)

Big Mick quote

"When it quickly goes pear shaped (which it surely will) my prediction is that the excuses of the goatee devotees will be as follows....

54% will say that "Rafa had no chance from the off, it was an impossible task because the fans hated him".

29% will say it wasn't Rafa's fault because "the players run the club and Abrhamovic lets them get away with it".

11% will say it was because "Rafa wasn't allowed to buy the players he wanted".

The remaining 6% will say Rafa "F*cked it up on purpose" because he actually loves Liverpool and "gets us"."

:D  Love the last line, it's so true, we do have a small percentage of fools following us (see RAWK) who'd actually believe this *****. I'm sure said bunch would be 'well happy' or at least make more ridiculous excuses for his chosen job, if Rafa ever took over Fergie at United, proclaiming that they hoped he'd win the league with them just to show everybody what a good manager he is.

I don't know how any Liverpool supporter can dislike or dismiss Benitez and I still to this day cannot comprehend how people can call him a poor manager and yet at the same time brand Redknapp, Moyes, Pulis and other managers as being good managers and yet they have won nothing like what Benitez has won. Give Benitez £100m to spend without net spend needing to be an issue and he will build you a title winning side for years to come. The major problem with Rafa is at times he is more obsessed with the opposition than he needs to be and at times he can come across as being arrogant i.e. going to Inter Milan and immediately asking Moratti for money and when Moratti said no, he started taking little pot shots at Moratti in the media. But make no mistake about it, Rafa is a class manager and I think he is more than capable of leading Chelsea to the League title in May. It's not mission impossible by any stretch of the imagation. He has a lot of good players in his squad.

This is it, a lot of our fans are arrogant, know everything, but know nothing cretins of the highest order. How anybody can turn around and say Rafa was a poor manager is beyond me? This is a man who conquered Europe playing the likes of Milan Baros, Djimi Traore, Igor Biscan and Neil Mellor.

Rafa made lots of mistakes during his stint as Liverpool manager, the sale of Alonso being the biggest one, but a bad manager doesn't win a Champions League trophy and doesn't outwit the biggest hitters in Spanish football not once, but twice in three seasons.

People like Lakes would probably sit there and slate Rodgers if he won us the CL, league and FA cup treble. That's what you get from some supporters.

Don't ever claim to be a Liverpool fan, because you clearly have no affinity to the club and everything associated in our 110 year history

Couldn't agree more Kenny, this whole Chelsea thing has left a very bad taste in my mouth.

For one he's lost my respect, well and truly. I make no differences between him and Torres.

It's actually unbelieveable the amount of people that still stick up for him, even now, when all this crazy stuff is being printed in the media how in "love he is with Chelsea" and how "wonderful" it is working for the Russian.

Just wait until he starts ripping into us as soon as the next game against them comes around. You can be sure that the cultists will agree with his every word and not defend THE CLUB THEY SUPPORT.

F***king lemmings!  :no

Eds you are such a joke if you don't see the difference between what Rafa and Torres did.

Rafa got kicked out of the club and haven't ever said a bad thing about our club except the last owners. He has been out of a job since the Inter one and you can't blame him for taking this one.

If he starts ranting about our fans then I doubt no one will protect him.

Rafa is still a f*cking legend.

As disappointed as I am that Benitez has gone to Chelsea, I can understand why he has taken the chance to manage them. He has the opportunity to win at least four trophies this season, two of which he has never won before and he has the chance to put this whole "Rafa is a clown", "Rafa is a poor manager" myth to bed once and for all. However my focus is solely on Brendan Rodgers - he's our manager and needs our support. Win tomorrow and we have a chance to going in front of Spurs (if they lose) and we can close the gap on Arsenal to just 2 points.
