i`m not actually advocating a change of manager i`m advocating for the manager to change.
the big fear we all had when FSG were mentioning names like martinez, lambert and rodgers as successors to dalglish was could they handle the pressure of managing such a big club? especially a big club in crisis and imo rodgers got this job too early, the mistakes he has made have been amateurish.
the owners took a hell of a lot stick from all quarters (fans, written press, media etc) over what happened in the summer, infact they took so much stick john henry had to write an open letter to explain what happened but lets look at last summer.
everyone could see that the one thing liverpool lacked last season was a goalscorer, only barcelona in the top 5 league`s in europe (spain, germany, italy, france and england) spent more time in the opposition`s final 3rd and no one hit the woodwork more times than us. performances in general were good and out of the 38 league games we were outplayed in probably only 5 or 6 of them.
we all seem to forget that rodgers spent nearly £30m in the summer (allen, borini, assaidi) and he failed to address the one glaring problem in the side, not only that he made the situation worse!!
we started this season with a weaker squad than we finished last season with, and thats after spending £30m.
in my eyes thats an amateurish mistake.
look at the way he handled the carroll situation, if he didnt want him at the club then fair enough but as manager it`s his job to get the best deal for the club, but rodgers was driving carrolls price down by making it so obvious in the press that he didnt want him, carroll`s stock was quite high after the euro`s and i`m sure a more experienced manager would have talked him up to drive the price up but rodgers was doing the opposite.
rodgers priority in the summer didnt seem to be buying a striker but surrounding himself with familiar faces, as soon as he got in the door he announced that joe cole had a big future at the club and seemingly everyone that we were linked to were his mates - kalou, borini, allen, signurdsson, sturridge.......even ashley williams when it looked like agger or skrtel might be going.
and i wont even bother mentioning the farce at the end of the transfer window, how he could balls that one up after saying he wouldnt work under a DoF god only knows.
rodgers has made mistake after mistake and here we are with 2 wins from 10 games in the league.
he wasnt ready for this job imo, his statements swing wildly from shankly-esque call to arms to doom and gloom predictions and even when he called out downing, cole and enrique in the press it was almost as if he had been reading fans forums and then saying what the fans want to hear.
there is a lot to like about his passing style and he does make brave decisions like playing suso and sterling etc but i think we have got a manager who is still learning the game, we are basically being managed by an managerial apprentice.
