No one wants to watch a losing football team on the proviso the team is rebuilding. The point of the article and the reasoning behind it is that allowances can be made early on in a rebuilding phase because the rebuilding work is extremely valuable in the long term.
I hate watching us misfire and draw or lose games where we clearly should have won, but the reality is our style is shining through and we are playing well. In my opinion we will get it right eventually, even if this season is a write off. Rodgers will need at least two more transfer windows to bring in players who can strengthen the squad and fill missing gaps.
The last time I was willing to give a manager time to get it right was when Benitez came in. My instinct proved me right then, I have no reason to doubt it again.
What di Benitez have to get right? He inherited a top 4 team that was moving forward. His expertise and knowledge of world forward completed that squads journey. After all the same squad (bar a couple of strikers) one 3 cup competitions in one season - a feet only done once - by us - LFC!
benitez had to get an awful lot right!
the club was in a right state when he took over.
the football in the latter part of geds reign was terrible, our style of play was so bad opposition fans constantly used to chant `hoof` at us. infact our style of play was a running joke throughout the league.
the team was totally devoid of any fight and confidence highlighted by the fact we hadnt over turned a one goal defecit in over two years.
the club itself was skint to the extent that the owner (who had owned us for donkeys) announced that he had to sell the club as the last of his money went on houlliers over priced flops like diouf, diao, cheyrou, biscan etc, all of whom had little or no sell on value.
from the outside we looked like a busted flush, and thats why our 2 most talented players (gerrard and owen) wanted out.
rafa`s first act as liverpool manager was to fly out to the england team hotel during euro 2004 and try to convince gerrard and owen to stay. dont forget he only managed to convince gerrard to stay in the short term, gerrards future was up in the air right through that season and he only commited his future to the club on the pitch in istanbul after the final when he said `how can i leave after this?`
benitez had a huge job on.
So basically all LFC managers going back since when have had a rough deal for one reason or another? I geuss this is the reason why LFC are such a great club, because we won & still win (I won't forget the 2012 Carling Cup win in a hurry) when all aspects of club business was / is against us?
I think not - IMO
