So what?

So what? Well, like was mentioned when Rodgers took over, we are a work in progress. Slowly but surely we are improving, and our passing stats show that. Forgive me for having the patience to take the positives out of our progression.

Some people have no patience and want things here and now. We were beaten because we lost concentration and didnt have the know how to break them down at the end. This can be rectified.
As far as Gerrard is concerned, Im not sure if hes best used as an impact sub. Anyone got any stats or examples of where he has come on and we have won?

lets not forget here we are only 13 games into rodgers tenure.
we put out a weakend line up against a decent european side (they are probably a better side than some of the teams the likes of united and chelsea have played in the CL) and to be fair on the balance of play we were the better side on the night. i think it`s encouraging that our second string was so competatitve against a good, well organised italian team.
i dont blame rodgers for prioritising the prem, infact after what happened to kenny he`d be crazy not to.
all in all it was a good performance and we are still in the competition

Yeah it is.

Reality Check, the European league is our level of competition. If we can't compete here forget about CL football.

your joking arent you? apart from the own goal he had a great game.
coates is 21/22, center halves dont reach their peak until their late 20`s/early 30`s.
not many center halves his age better than him.

One thing which Coates won't improve with age is his speed. He is too slow to play a major part in top PL or CL football. He was brought to entertain Suarez ,his net value or potential as a top notch CB is not their.

No, I know what level we are at. I have said it before, we are a mid table team. It doesnt change the fact that the UEFA cup is a mickey mouse competition. The whole set up is a farce.

The best defenders dont need speed. Sami Hyypia and Paolo Maldini to name just two.

No point having 500 more passes than the oppo if you do nothing threatening with them

Of those teams we lost to Arsenal, Man United and Udinese. But lets not take that into account. Like all those in the media who are more than willing to jump on the "lets condemn Liverpool" bandwagon, not all the story is told is it?

No one is condeming Liverpool ,Rodgers has the right tactics he just needs to play right players ,if you play reserves teams like Udinese (which are having a pretty shitty season) will beat us.

But the team we put out wasnt a reserve team was it? A couple of youngsters but mostly experienced players.

Out of the starters, only Reina, Johnson and Allen weren't reserves.

Sami was lord of the sky and had the agressivness and speed when needed (kinda Carra in his younger years) ,Maldini had excellent footwork and ball control...Coates is neither neither and neither ,his instincts are matched by his slowness. He isn't a bad defender ,but right now i see in Wisdom much more potential then in Coates.

So far this season. Last season Downing and Henderson were our big signings and regulars. So that puts it up to 5. Borini has been a regular up until his knock, so thats 6. Shelvey has been a bit part player, 7, Assaidi is a new signing and is gradually being introduced to team. Carragher, no explanation needed so thats 8.

Im sorry, that is not a reserve team.

Coates ,Carra and Robinson are all reserves and bam their goes your Defensive unit. (not to mention Johnson which is crappy defender). Add to that Borini which is yet to do anything and Hendo/Downing which are also on a guts seeking advanture ,What do you got? Not much.

Then what is our reserve team? Suso and Wisdom?

Reserve doesn't mean playing acadamy players ,it's playing those which regulary gon't get the wave in for the first team because they aren't good enough. they could have ton of experience but they are less good then the starters aka=reserves.
If those guys barely got out of Swizerland in one piece what makes Rodgers think they can pull it against a more solid team?

Yes, I agree there. And thats why we probably lost tonight. However I must stick up for Coates, he had a good game. The own goal was unfortunate.
