The owners have not once suggested they want to sign Dempsey - not once.

werner said it and obviously i cant remember what he said verbatim (it was months ago) but it was along the lines of they would love to sign an american player because it would be the quickest way to grow the fanbase in the states, then he gave the usual spiel about the player first and foremost would have to be good enough to justify his place in the squad  blah blah blah.
i`m not 100% certain but the answer may have been in response to a question about dempsey (but i wouldnt swear on that bit, the other bit about wanting to sign an american player because of the fans etc i would)

And from that you have them wanting to buy Dempsey all because of the Mouth that is Tom Werner and we haven't had one single bid for Dempsey. I expect our interest in Dempsey finished over 6 weeks ago when we refused to even continue with anything when a 10mil fee was mentioned.

Also the owners decided against a DoF because Rodgers refused to work with one - we have also so far bought 3 players the managers wants plus another on loan the manager wants and you suggest the owners will buy a player they want and not the manager ?!

The facts don't back up you Agatha Christie novel I'm afraid.

Bill Shankly was treated awfully by the club when he left. He wasnt even allowed to attend games at Anfield. Rafas treatment of Alonso wasnt far off cruel either. And if we go by the rumours of the treatment of Meireles and the broken promises made to him, it would be fair to say, this club isnt the holiest when it comes to treatment of staff.

Every club deals with things in a bad way sooner or later.  You can't blame the Americans for the Meireles "promises" tho.  The old owners probably promised to pay him double in his second season because they knew they wouldn't have to cover the wage bill.  The new owners come in and say they won't keep that deal because it's ridiculous, how can you blame them?  They weren't afraid to pay people more, they have raised the salaries of multiple players at the club and said when they got here they wanted to raise the wage bill before lowering it.  THe Meireles situation just shows that the likes of Kenny, Comoli and the owners didn't believe he was worth what he expected to be paid.

I just can't believe that just one year down the line after Kenny and Comollis big spending spree only Suarez and Downing(not for long either) are first team starters.
Caroll, Henderson, Adam cost this club 60 million just this last year and if this goes on their value will not be half of what we paid for them.
Just an epic disaster. Aquilani will look like peanuts they day KK/Comollis rejects will be sold.

So what? Dempsey is a good player, far more effective than Downing. It would be more understandable if the owners are trying to bring in some scrub player just to sell shirts. If it's a player who can improve our team, I don't mind whether he is brought in to sell shirts or whatever. Selling shirts will help our club revenues as well. No club will deny that they don't want another David Beckham. For anyone to criticize the pursuit of Dempsey when he can improve on Stuart Little is being a bit narrow minded...

Thats by the by. The club made promises and broke them.

I dunno mate I disagree.  Look at how H+G handled things at the club.. They didn't are about the club, and I have no doubt they were thinking their actions would only affect the club after they were gone, so they didn't care about the promises they made because they never had to carry them thru.  Maybe if the said promises were reasonable, like Meireles was on low wages and they promised to give him wages he deserved the following  year, that's understandable.  We won't really know what the promises were, but I don't think the new owners are at much blame here.

Treatment of Alonso cruel ?! Are footballers that precious now that looking to sell a player is now cruel ?!

And Meireles signed his contract and "previous" owners said they would give him a wage rise not the current ones ?!
