Perhaps the club can't face the embarrassment of letting him go back to where he came from for less than half what they paid for him.

It's been a badly handled affair over the last week or so that reflects badly on the new manager's PR skills and on the supposed new fantastic set up with new people after all the problems last season over the Suarez affair.

I must say I find the Brendan Rodgers era so far a most unappealing one.

From what i have heard about the training methods i am excited to be honest.

We need to face facts I'm afraid. Ball retention and possession is great as far as it goes. Lack of creativity cost us dear last season. Until some movement is made in the transfer market in terms of at least once creative or player with pace I'm not sure much will change this coming season.

If Borini is a replacement for Kuyt and Dempsey is a replacement for Maxi it would seem logical that we have someone lined up to replace Carroll if we succeed in selling him. An informal agreement may already be in place with someone and we are just waiting to free up funds and wages by selling Carroll.

Carroll won't refuse a move back to newcastle.

Rodgers has also ruled out any loans...which means the Toon must either cough up 20 million (the reported price we've set) or get lost.  Either way, i'm not fussed because i think he'll be fired up to do well after all this.  Or, if he goes, we'll sign more players and continue to rebuild

I think BR would have been open to a loan deal if it was good for the club.  So all wages paid by the receiving club and a view to buy with a set value in place!

FSG are the ones who are totally against a loan deal

refuse to leave when BR has already accepted the offer and basically told him "I dont want you here"

Carroll would be silly to stay as he would be on the bench or worse not even in match squads.

I don't think Carroll is for sale at all.  I think its simply down to no football, no stories to tell.

Why would we loan him out when we've been thoroughly rogered loaning out Aqualani? Loaning is a terrible waste of money, all you're doing is financing a severely discounted opportunity for another club. Pretty sure the yanks see it that way as well.

As opposed to the Kenny era that put us in this mess?

In terms of damage, Kenny's era did more more than any other in my 20 years supporting the club (on the field... 110 million spent and made the team worse, lowest PL finish ever, 80 million spent on players we are looking to offload... off the field... terrible at dealing with the media, gave a curmudgeonly/miserable image of the club.

Such was the waste the new owners have reigned in the spending. Rodgers is having to look at cheaper options thanks to Kenny's splurge on pap.

Kenny failed. Rodgers is having to undo the damage he has been left with. He will need time before any judgement can be made.

I would guess that Rodgers would use Borini as his number 9 and have Carroll as backup.

Sigh....another "Liverpool spent £110m" comment.

I am not defending Kenny's signings at all, as the league table does not lie, but really, let's once and for all get rid of this Sky headline grabbing nonsense that Kenny spent £110m.

He sold Torres £50m, Babel £9m, Mereiles £10m, plus a few other odds and sods.  He also reduced the wage bill by about £30m a year.  This does not make his signings any better, but let's get the maths right.
