Think Rodgers needs to sacrifice one to bring others in and sees Carroll is that player.

For one he will be on big wages and secondly would still command a healthy transfer fee
excluding the fact we paid double his market value less than 2 years ago.

Another point is this player stank out the Dalglish reign and played a huge part in both
Dagger and Comolli losing their jobs, and Rodgers will want that kind of vibe cut out of
his tenure.

I doubt very much he will be loaned but a bid in the region of £15m should do the trick
and Rodgers will no doubt have people lined up to come in with the cash.

I suspect they will be hawking him out all over town at this point and with many teams
playing it safer cash wise player exchanges may well be prominent in negotiations.

Obviously no manager knows anything 'without a doubt', but being a Premier League manager who aspires to be one of the best it's likely that Rodgers will have seen enough of Carroll in competitive matches to form a good opinion of his abilities and how they might fit in with his style of football. Ideally he'd have more of a chance to assess the players, as would all newly appointed managers, before taking this kind of decision, but with there being a transfer window and a limited opportunity to do business, he doesn't have that luxury.

Andy Carroll: Newcastle poised to improve loan offer for striker

Newcastle are expected to return with an improved offer to take Liverpool's Andy Carroll on a season-long loan with a view to a permanent deal in future.

Liverpool dismissed Newcastle's first offer on Sunday night, but the Anfield club will consider a better deal.

Newcastle initially only offered to pay part of Carroll's £80,000-a-week wages.

Newcastle also wanted to pay £13m if the 23-year-old then signed a permanant deal, although the Reds are understood to want at least £17m.

The Newcastle hierarchy have retained their admiration for Carroll since he left for Liverpool in 2011.

He had initially resolved to prove himself to new Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers but is now understood to be keen to return to his hometown club.

Carroll was not with the Liverpool squad as they left for a pre-season tour of North America on Monday having been granted an extended holiday after Euro 2012.

The England international is due to join up with the squad on 23 July, alongside other internationals such as captain Steven Gerrard and goalkeeper Pepe Reina.

West Ham co-owner David Gold has also said the Upton Park club would be interested in signing Carroll.

Carroll struggled with Liverpool until belatedly finding both form and goals towards the end of last season.

He headed the winner for Liverpool against Blackburn, while also scoring against Everton in a FA Cup semi-final win and the 2-1 loss to Chelsea in the final.

He scored for England at Euro 2012 in the win against Sweden, but appears to have fallen out of favour at Anfield.

Rodgers signed striker Fabio Borini from Roma this week, his first signing since taking over.

He is also planning contract talks to keep Uruguayan forward Luis Suarez at Anfield but has been noncommittal when talking about Carroll's future.

The striker helped the Magpies back into the Premier League with 17 league goals in the 2009-10 Championship season.

Carroll continued his promising form in the top flight in the following campaign and made his senior England debut under Fabio Capello in a 2-1 defeat by France at Wembley.

He scored 11 times in 19 league games before becoming the most expensive British player when ex-Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish took him to Anfield.

I didn't think Carroll would be Rodgers type of footballer and it doesn't surprise me that he's been linked with a move away from Liverpool.

If we want to emulate the Barca-Spain-Netherlands-Cruyff-Hungary tika taka football then players like Carroll aren't going to achieve this type of football. That's not to suggest that Carroll is a poor footballer, he's just not a technically gifted one and your typical British powerhouse just won't be able to play this brand of football.

the thing is though mate those teams you mentioned all contained some of the best players of all time (cruyff, puskas, iniesta, xavi, messi)
where is our vesrsion of them?
it`s alright saying i want to play a certain system but you need the players to do it, this borini lad could well be the second coming of fernando torres but over the last 3 seasons he`s scored a total of 16 goals, clint dempsey aint exactly johan neeskens either and joe allen aint jonny rep.
to me we seem to be talking a good game but thats about it, we talk about emulating barcelona but bring in clint dempsey and a 21 year old younger version of dirk kuyt?

id keep him he's like crouch, del not as good technical, but if the tiki take football isn't working, throw carroll on the last 20mins, lump the ball up n he will probably win us the game. he can change a game in an instant, and we lack strikers so sep him,unless we sign a top class man to replace  him

You don't have a £35m, £90000 a week striker coming on for the last 20 minutes here and there!

well it looks like Newcastle are preparing a 2nd bid...we need to hold strong and tell them to cough up 20 mill or get lost. A loan isn't no use, because Rodgers needs the cash to rebuild our squad.

Why did we buy him in the first place, if there are no plans for him at all? Let alone at a price tag of 35 million? I find it very contradicting...
Does the Owners know what they want? Or they are just ill-advised by certain individual? Confused..
