we really need to raise the bar or top 4 will never happen,

we need a cover left back, right wing and a striker.

most of the people we our linked with are neither

I think for the calibre of player Liverpool require there would need to be significant outgoings in the midfield department ,and I honestly feel the likes
of Henderson could be genuinely transformed under the influence of Rodgers ..... I am literally salivating about how good Lucas will be when  Rodgers
has finished improving the game of someone who is already the best DM in the premiership.

Mark Davies may have played in a Bolton team that were relegated ,but the lad certainly has genuine talent ,and if Rodgers views him as an unpolished
diamond then we only have to look at how he bettered Joe Allens overall game at Swansea ,and how playing in a team conducive to innovative  one touch football can only inspire confidence .

As fans, we really need to reset our expectations of potential signings. It is very clear that we simply cannot attract top talent at this stage. The next few years are simply about re-buidling with a completely different football philosophy. I suspect that our youth development will see a big overhaul if Rodgers stays true to his word.

We have a decent core squad that will solidify our position within the top 8 for the next couple of years. If the club shows signs of genuine improvement in the league, top players might once again start considering Liverpool as an option, but that will not happen in the short term.

Rather than become disgruntled and disappointed that we're sitting 6th or 7th this Winter, I think it would serve us better to understand that it isn't that bad a position to be in for the long run.

Any players coming in will most likely be to provide cover in certain areas. Mark Davies can provide cover - Alonso and Johnson are the type of players that will not consider Liverpool as an option and neither would their clubs consider selling them for the sort of money we are willing to spend on a single player.

If you cant offer Champs League to top players you have to give them lots of money
and then they sit up and take an interest.

Footballers love cash and will kiss the badge of any team willing to pay it in large sums.

Spend it and they will come to Liverpool.

I disagree in the sense that there are European players from the Europa League clubs and possibly even from some teams who have been and are still in the champions league who would join Liverpool like Suarez did. I also think a top four challenge is not out of the question this season.

mark davies   i dont care how broke most seem to think we are but surely we can afford to aim a little higher than this.
have we not learned an expensive lesson last season in buying average players who proved to be out of their depth and struggled.
is davies gonna be anymore valuable to us than downing, hendo or adam? i think not and all we will end up doing is compounding the problem we have with more average british players.
its early days yet of course and these are just rumours but i hope rodgers is looking for some better signings than this.mark davies arrival isnt going to excite the dressing room.

There's no truth in the Mark Davis rumours.

lucas is no saviour by any stretch of the imagination.
yes id like him to pick up where he left off in terms of value to the team but will he suit this style of football rodgers is going to introduce?.
imo it will take a while for him to regain his confidence and fitness so he cant be relied on for the start of the season and whoever takes his place might leave him with a fight to retain it.

I don't care who Brendan signs, just as long as these players add much needed quality to our side and we don't overpay for their services.

Call me mad for saying this but i dont think we need to buy anybody major (+10 mil) Maybe cover for leftback, a right winger would be ideal (needed one for the last 6 years in my opinion)

- Decent variation upfront

- Alot in midfield, with Cole and Aquilani (if he wants to) come back. Also Lucas to come back from injury. Gerrard was immense for England, i have faith in Rodgers bringing out the best in Hendo.

- Bit light on the wings, i dont think Downing done alot wrong last year (lots of crosses and chances created aswell as unlucky due to woodwork). (Need a right winger)

- Raheem Sterling will get a shot, looks very decent, young hungry and eager to make an impact. could turn out to be brilliant.

- Defenders are all great, strong cover for  right back/ centre back in Kelly and Coates. Skrtel and Agger are brilliant. (may need cover for leftback).

- Reina is world class, not only on the field but in the dressing room also, important player and character, decent cover in Jones and Doni.

If we got cover for leftback and a right winger that would be ideal.

- Right wingers (Realistically)
Wilfred Zaha ?  - looks decent ,Skillfull, fast, and hard working
Victor Moses? - again skillfull and fast, not sure the comiedian Whelan would sell him to us with the whole Martinez embargo
Ben Arfa?

- Leftback - No idea  :help

I'd actually quite like to see Theo Walcott join. Need some blistering pace in the team.

Surely we need another DM. surprised we've not been linked with more of these types of players. We may have a truck load of midfielders, but we've only got one Lucas. Is Coady ready to step up into this sort of role?

I would be happy with 4 new signings but as time goes on that many looks less likely:

Another DM : Lass Diarra (available at a reasonable price)

2 of these wingers : Hoillett, Affelay, A. Johnson or Walcott (with Downing and Sterling, Bellemy as 4th choice striker)

Another striker : Luuk De Jong

The biggest change is probably not going to be signings but mentality and tactical style of play.

Maybe Brendan has Cole in mind to become the playmaker in the centre. I think another winger, striker and defender are the players that would add a bit more to the team.
