if true he must really be the man they wanted.

it seems that way mate, apparently werner and henry were very impressed with him.
by all accounts he`s got total control over transfers as well

Good for Rodgers, I hope he has total control, I hope he has time and patience on his side and I hope he improves us drastically next season. There is absolutely no need to have a Director of Football. Clubs like Chelsea and United don't have one, so why do we need one?

What will happen to Keen and Clarke then? I thought that a great partnership could be formed between the three of them. Especially with Clarke man, we can't fire that guy, I think he did a great job last season.

Agree.

I think the funds that would be spent on DOF should be invested in the scouting network or something like that.

Is Rogers the right manager? dunno but I can't wait to find out, I have a little ray of hope that we will at least play attractive football.

Appointing any manager is a risk and appointing BR is no different. In a way he is a bigger risk because first of all, he's no big name manager yet and he has only spent one season in the PL with the Swans. But one thing I can be sure of is this, he will be a breath of fresh air for the club and we shall see better ball possession and control next season. I doubt very much that we can qualify for CL because Manure, City, Arsenal, Chel and Spurs will invest heavily and getting a their star names and we don't have the funds nor the appeal for star names without CL football after Kenny had wasted over 100 million on duds and a poor league finish last season. BR and the players will need time to adjust to each other and the ball being round, anything can happen. Let's hope for the best. I won't be expecting overnight success but will be pleased come May next year if BR has improved our league position back to 6th or 5th and narrow down significantly the 37 point gap difference between us and whoever that are the PL champion. Then we're talking and the next step would then be a top 4 finish the following season.

Lets not lose sight of one fact.

Twit and Tw@t caused these performance issues:  Rafa's stressful last year, appoint feckin' Hodgson and our subsequent meltdown, Kenny coming in  - not a natural choice - for 18 months, and now another clear out and an unknown come sin.

The lad needs a chance but after all the upheaval its too much to expect a bounce back, he needs at least next season to bed in before driving forward.

Patience is a virtue.

Turn the telly on this morning and skipping through the usual news channels who do I find on SSN? Lo and behold it's our man Dave Whelan topping the headlines!   That man wants his own show. I think Sky need to get a grip, too. It's getting silly now.

Anyway, dawn of a new day, hopefully a dawn of a new era at the club under our new manager.

Good luck, Brendan. Wishing you many successful days (daren't think about years, yet!) at the club :)

Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing

BREAKING NEWS !!

Dave Whelan: Liverpool wanted Roberto Martinez over Brendan Rodgers

friday, June 1, 2012 at 06:18 UK

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has claimed that Latics manager Roberto Martinez was Liverpool's first choice to succeed Kenny Dalglish, despite the Merseyside club opting for Swansea City coach Brendan Rodgers.

The Northern Irishman is expected to be unveiled as the new Reds boss at a press conference at 10am this morning.

Despite the imminent appointment, Martinez was the clear favourite to nab the position last week following a number of talks with Liverpool's American owners.

"[Martinez] could not accept that he would have a director of football who told him who he wanted to sign and who he was going to sign," Whelan told Sky Sports News.

"I don't think there is any doubt [that Martinez was first choice]. They might deny it but I think he was their number one."

The Spaniard has since committed his future to Wigan.

Jose Mourinho believes the appointment of Brendan Rodgers is a smart decision by Liverpool.

I reckon Brendan Rogers and Liverpool FC will turn out to be a match made in heaven....

He will have us playing some stuff that we should be playing. The Liverpool way.

Whether or not he will be successful short term remains to be seen, however I reckon over the three years of his contract we will see significant improvement.

Don't you mean Canadian

It seems people find it hard to distinguish between Canadian/American, Irish and Northern Irish on here.

It certainly looks like it.

Isnt Canada in North America?

our scouting network  was made much better by Kenny, we had out UK scouts put back in place aswell as our links with lower clubs. Rogers will make good use of them, from what i read he have many links all over the place but have never been able to buy the players he likes due to not having the money but has tipped off others about new good players.
