The sacking of Rafa is the biggest mistake this club has ever made and ever will make. Uncle Rafa with the right owners i.e. FSG would set the world on fire. I had every right to weep, I felt physically sick to the pit of my stomach that we had sacked a world class manager, a friend of the supporters and someone who did so much to bring about a change of ownership at the club he loves - he risked his managerial career to save our club from the disease that affected our club. Never have I felt more ashamed to support Liverpool football club as when Rafa was forced out. Rafa's sacking had nothing to do with football reasoning, it was Political.

I tell you what though, I think Lakes has major competition because Dave Whelan is now the man in the know.

The way our club and football in general is going, i'd not be suprised if the next "awsomely coooool!!!" idea the americans have is to choose a manager via a Big Brother/X-Factor type thing. We could have Rafa, Martinez, Rodgers, KK, AVB and the rest all in a house and vote them off one by one. It would bring in much needed income via phone-ins, and wouldn't it be grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat entertainment?  :D

That wasn't the view of a number of fans two years ago. There were some on LFCTV at the time agreeing that it was the right decision. The fact is that yes H&G stitched up Rafa with spending in the summer of 2009 but Rafa also lost the plot in 09/10. The team was too defensive Lucas and Mascherano in midfield, the bad signing of Aqualani and the deadwood that had been bought over his time in charge. Most of Kenny's problems revolved around the problems with the squad that he inherited.

Even if FSG had bought Liverpool six months before they did I don't think they would have persisted with Rafa. His transfer record was too patchy and in his final season the team wasn't top four material.  We should be looking forward not back though I would have Rafa over Martinez at any time.

One bad season equates to 'losing the plot'? That's an interesting take on things. People slate Benitez's tenure as manager as a failure, yet you just know that if Benitez was able to afford to purchase his top targets that we'd have half the Spain national team at our club. I believe Benitez in the summer of 2009 wanted Silva, Villa and Jovetic and was not allowed to go after these players as they were out of Liverpool's price range. This is what Benitez had to endure throughout his tenure as manager and it's any wonder the man did as well as he did what with having one arm tied behind his back.

I don't disagree with many of your points but also Rafa wasn't sacked he parted company by mutual consent with the club. I don't think Rafa wanted to stay at that time he pretty much made it clear he needed getting on for £100 milion to turn it around. There was no way that those kind of funds or even half of that amount was going to be available for him in 2010.

I was disappointed as well but I think he was happy to go. The new owners don't have a bottomless pit they want the new manager to get more out of players at good value particularly after last summer's buys didn't turn out that well. I don't know if Rafa is the man to do that.

I have mixed feelings on Rafa returning. I'm not completely opposed but nor am I enthusastically in favour. For similar reasons that Kenny couldn't have replaced Rafa in 2010 neither can Rafa really replace Kenny at the moment. That said if Martinez comes in and gets two or three years without finishing in the top four or making much of a difference I would have thought that Rafa would then be odds on to get the job.

Rafa tried to sign Alves in 2005 along with Simao and the following year he wanted to sign Vidic and Evra. You see, give Rafa Benitez £100m and he won't sign Charlie Adam, Jordan Henderson or Stewart Downing. He'd sign genuine quality and our team would be playing the way of the Benitez and winning trophy after trophy after trophy. Benitez was our answer to Genghis Khan, he could have created a dynasty of success, where opposition managers would cry into his breast and Benitez created a bastion of invincibility at Anfield. But no, he was forced out. A world class manager, a friend of Liverpool treated like dirt, filth, excrement.
