The answer is that we have become an extremely average team, managed by an extremely average manager and unless both these problems are addressed we will remain a mid-table average team.

Watching Match of the day, Alan Shearer summed up our problem by pointing out all the teams below us who have a better goals for record. We have probably hit the woodwork more times than any other team, in any other league, anywhere in the world. It has been ridiculous the amount of bad luck we have had there. Also the decisions by the referees have not gone our way at all, especially since the Suarez fiasco. Dalglish at the start of the season sat with the head of the refs and asked for fairness, since then, we have had nothing, NOTHING. If our players go down in the box, its a dive, if its the opposition, its a penalty. The game against Aston Villa summed it all up on one penalty we should have had. When the ref was asked to explain why he didnt give it he replied "I thought the lad was unlucky". Kenny picked up on this, and his reply where he said "we need to have a player assassinated before we get a decision" is spot on, because we have been screwed this season.
So a lot has gone against us this season, but with regards to our play, we have created loads of chances, and given many teams a game, but between hitting the post and missing altogether, the results show a different story.

Seriously man. After 30 games or so still blaming the weather, the woodwork, poor referees, chance, bad luck, the linesman, and ohhh did i mention bad luck?
30 games, relegation form, poor man management, poor fitness level, few open chances, deep defensive line, no pressing, lack of flair and creativity, no gameplan, no tactics, no team only individuals, poor crossing, miserable signings, hundreds of millions squandered, bad set pieces, blind favouritism, This is what I see.
The worst development I have witnessed in my lifetime, going from good, todecent, to rotten in 2 years. Still saved by the Benitez remains in Reina, Lucas, Skrtl, Agger, Maxi, Kuyt. Take away these guys and hello Championship.
Walk on water, walk on water I say and on we go towards the abyss together with the One

we batter teams off the park, playing some really good stuff but can't stick the ball in the net. apparently it's the "managers fault" that these players can't do the basics properly when it comes to finishing.
on the other hand we went away to man city, stuck 9 behind the ball and got a 1-0 win and the manager still got slaughtered by some fans for being "too defensive".
