Damien comolli leaves LFC by mutual consent

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby red_guy » Thu Apr 12, 2012 4:02 pm

I remember reading an article where Comolli was interviewed. He said something about Carroll's signing which he said  it was his discussions with Henry led to Carroll's signing especially after the mutiny that's been done by You Know who.. Carroll's already on his radar(his choice)at that time and Henry's willing to pay  over the odds with Comolli's suggestions. None of the statements refers to Kenny and judging by that statement, it's safe to say Carroll is a panic buy. Anyway, that doesn't mean that i think Kenny is 'innocent' regarding all of the transfers.
Is it Comolli's or Kenny's fault..?.  i just dont know .

Here's the scenario...

Kenny loses Torres - fuk.  Right, Kenny needs a striker, likes the look of Carroll, on form, banging in the goals. Kenny tells Comolli, comolli then goes and gets his man. John Henry picks up the tab. So Kenny might have spotted Carrol but Comolli is responsable and at fault for the high price we paid and John Henry is fuking nuts to pay it but he has already decided he'll pay over the odds for a comolli player.

So I'm thinking Kenny had nothing really to do with Carroll signing. Had comolli come back and said " We can have carroll for £15 million" then all would of been well. Kenny had NO control over the inflated price. If John Henry would of said to Kenny "we can get carroll for £35 million" I'm sure Kenny would've declined it.

or maybe even next season, or even the one after, a 24 or 25 year old andy carroll is playing full of confidence and banging in the goals. how will we work out who's 'fault' it is then?

Come on now.

So you don't think Dalglish understands that if Commoli blows 35 million on Andy he will have less for other players. It's like saying ok bring us a backup keeper "Some goalie" and Commoli goes out and offers 10000000 million for him and then expects to be totally free of "guilt". Dalglish has said that he wanted Andy and ofcourse he knew the price.

Only time will tell if the transfers pays out. If I was betting man I know which alternative I would go for. Worth 35 million or not.

''we have a strategy we need implemented and we felt Damien was probably not the right person to implement that strategy.'' - Tom Werner

Hmm... Comolli and FSG disagree on strategy?

yah, agreed, Kenny is old school so he aint stupid, he knows Torres might worth 50m and he knows Carroll aint worth 35m.
from Wiki:
" The following season was trophyless for Liverpool. Before the 1987–88 season, Dalglish signed a number of new players: Peter Beardsley from Newcastle, John Aldridge from Oxford United (who replaced Ian Rush); winger John Barnes from Watford; and Oxford United midfielder Ray Houghton."

Kenny signed four legends without breaking the bank.

  Stop living in the past. If Kenny is such a great manager, I'm sure other clubs would have gone for him during the span he remained unemployed.

Oh and just so you know, back then, there weren't any Arabs or Russians changing the face of football with their billions.

Like most of us they probably looked at where we were last season, at the money we then spent on new players and at the position we now find ourselves in and concluded that something big went wrong, and that it needs addressed. I'm glad because we would be kidding ourselves if we thought that our problems could be solved with a bit of tweaking here and there. Major change is needed, to the playing staff and to the way we play, and if getting rid of Comolli helps in that regard then I welcome it. It does bemuse me, though, that the people who have the most faith in our new signings who have thus far failed to deliver had the least faith in the man who helped to bring those players to the club. Surely if you think that Carroll's going to become a beast of a player or that Henderson will one day be world class you should have a little more respect for the man who helped sign those players, i.e. Comolli?
