Why, did fans back in the early 1990s confuse nostalgia with success too?

me neither.

And has anyone even read that article?  Bascially, it claims Dalglish's coaching was done by Ray Harford, with 5-asides and 'smiles on faces''....

How exactly?

English football is more technical, dynamic and diverse than the old 4-4-2 days of 20 years ago.

Modern teams don’t stick to a single formation anymore, instead the entire team will change its shape as it defends and attacks during the match, Managers also make constant changes to their tactics to outwit the opposition and it’s not unusual for one player to play 3 or 4 different roles in the space of 45 mins as the manager makes constant alterations to their tactics.

Then there’s the different approach footballers take to training, diet, preparation and a whole host of other things....basically, if that article is right, and Kenny’s approach is watching us play a few 5 a sides, with Clarke taking all the training, then we’re in deep, deep trouble

Hmmm
So uniteds wing backs overlapping and putting crosses into the box is new? They play like theyve always played, attacking, going forward and putting teams on the back foot. They are also good at cheating and manipulating the media, which is a major part of their particular success.
I think youre over complicating what is still a relatively simple game. 11 players on each side and a goal at either end. The object being to put the ball in your opponents net. I think its more about team spirit and attitude rather than formations, which is why all the teams above us are where thay are.
Oh, and luck of course
:D

attitude is important, but the technical aspect of the game has more importance and is, in my view, lost of Kenny. He doesn't make any changes to his approach, tactics or (for the most part) his team, even when it's blatent his tactics have been sussed by the opposition and we're getting dicked on. Just my view like

Im not saying tactics and formations arent important but I dont see the skanks doing anything out of the ordinary. They are the best team in the league because they will win it and the table doesnt lie. But the advantages they gain throughout the season have a major influence on where they end up.
Even if KK had the formation, team selection and tactics spot on we have the disadvantage of referrees being either consciously or sub consciously against us, as was seen yesterday regarding Suarez. This has been delberately manufactured by Evra and Purple nose, encouraged and supported by the cu'nty FA and the tw@tty media.
My point is that KKs knowledge of the game today is as good as anyone, but he cannot influence what is out of his control and we are paying the price for what has happened off the field as well as bad formations, tactics etc.

The reason Suarez didn't get that pentalty is because every ref knows his reputation for throwing himself to the floor every 5 mins. Manure do try and influence the media and refs/FA where they can, but lets be honest, our failings have nothing to do with that, do they.

Im only stating facts and I personally cant see how people dont connect the two.
Football is about much more than what happens on the pitch and the likes of Purple nose appreciates this and uses it to his advantage every single season. He must gain at least 6 points with his mind games and if a referee bases his decision on the reputation of someone instead of the particular incident then it only proves my point.
Of course we have been lacking and our points and goals tally tells us this. What we dont see though is the effect the Evra affair had on our players and referees. That situation completely de-railed our season and we are still feeling the effects today.

The Evra situation didn't help, i agree, , but our season has been de-railed by poor players, awful tactics and bad management.

I always hoped Rafa would stay for years and knock ferguson off his perch, I believe he just needed the right backing. I didn't want Kenny to get the job because I was afraid for his reputation if things didn't go right but now he's here I want to support him.

I also believe net spend is the most important factor when looking at somones transfer policy and Rafa spent more overall and in one season net and gross. Rafa made some great signings and a lot of players came to us because Rafa was the coach, he made some poor signings because the money was tight at times and he needed to take a gamble on some of them.

The reason ferguson has done so well over the years is because he's had the time and the financial backing to get things right, he's made bad signings over the years but it doesn't get mentioned because he's had the success to go with it.

That's why I'm saying whoever is in charge, we give them the time, financial backing and support to get things right.

Fair enough Basil, your views are a bit more understandable now, but I still think you are dead wrong when you don't see the spending this year as record high and bya long mile above what any other manager has had available even in three full years. Torres transfer profit was not Kenny's achievement. Kenny on the other hand has most likely lost 70 million or so in less than half a year from his transfers. That is probably the worst transfer record in football history. I will go as far as saying the Carroll, Adam, Downing, Henderson and Coates transfers - every one of them is record bad in some way. Financially yes, and also infectious on morale and on quality in training bringing the squad talent and fitness and skills down with them. If you introduce a bunch of poor footballers into the squad the general level must drop. So directly and also indirectly the transfers have been detrimental.

For the most part the players havent played as well as they should have and some of KKs team selections have been questionable.
To have had so many corners, penalties and woodwork hits tells us we have been attacking but not converting chances. But I think you are underestimating how referees, the media and other clubs can influence what goes on in a season. We have had a torrid time of it and I cant think of any other club which has been under the spotlight as much as us except for possibly Man City. And look at whats happened to them...
