We've NEVER been a cup side, NEVER.

Our tradition is winning league titles, being the best team in the land and having players who are proud to wear the shirt.

Never said we were a cup side !

Then again that is all we have won in the last 20 plus years .

Cant really call it a tradition anymore.

Maybe some need to realise that

not while there's a breath in my body.

Then there is your problem. No title for over 20 years - that is a sad fact that some need to realise.

We lost the right to demand league titles a long time ago.

We won't win the title for a long period yet as well.

If we're not a cup side then what the feck are we?

I have always told my chelsea mates, if they got Rafa as manager, they would win the league.

Of course we are a fracking cup side.

No league title since 1990. Time we got real and accept that were begining to become a club that relies on our history now. Cup wins apart from Istanbul are just papering over the cracks. We are becoming deluded. The mancs are laughing at us

change 1990 for 1946 in your post and people were probably saying the same things in the late 50`s, then bill shankly arrived and no one was laughing then, apart from us.

We just need stability and a manager who can come in and build a great side, unfortunately purchasing overpriced British footballers is not the way to build a great side. Those who say we aren't a cup team really need to take the blinkers, we've been a cup side for the past twenty years. We're no longer a driving force in the Premier League, in fact we are becoming a mid-table club. We're an England's largest underachieving football club. We're not even a big club in the League anymore and haven't been since we dropped out of the top four nearly two years ago.

when you nearly go out of existence those things happen, i think quite a few fans have forgotten what was happening under H&G, you dont bounce back straight away when you`ve lost so many key players in a short space of time.

good post. of course we're a cup team. the fact is, we've won more cup competitions than any other english club this millenium. we've won everything you can win (1 CL, 1 UEFA Cup, 2 European Super Cups, 3 League Cups and 2 FA Cups). the only time we've been a major force in the league was 08/09 when we should have won it. 2001/2 we finished 2nd to a brilliant Arsenal side.

you talk about stability and that's why kenny needs to be given the chance to rectify what happened last summer. the signings last summer were clearly brought in to stabilise the club and improve the squad whilst we sold the deadwood to reduce the wage bill. unfortunately our squad is now stronger but not out first team. that has to be the aim this summer. it's about quality over quantity.

Things were bad under H&G, but things weren't exactly brilliant under Moores and Parry were they? Moores mismanaged Liverpool as much as Hicks and Gillett. When Roy Evans knocked on Moores' door and asked him for money to sign Lillian Thuram and Marcel Desailly he was told that Liverpool couldn't afford these players. Yet Moores invested over £150m into Houllier's six year tenure on chronic waste of spaces like Cheyrou, Diouf and Diao. The reason Liverpool is in this mess is because of constant mismanagement from the top level which has filtered down through the ranks. Liverpool has also wasted so much money on poor players it's unbelievable, we saw this with Souness, Evans, Houllier and Rafa to a certain extent and we're still seeing it with Kenny. The only difference is now we're signing players at extortionate prices.

Those who continue to say we're a big team in England are delusional, we're no bigger than Newcastle or Tottenham in the grand scheme of things. It's upto Kenny to change all that and restore us as a big club in England and in Europe. Will he do it? Well he won't if he continues to sign British players for ridiculous prices.

you are off your head if you think newcastle and spurs are bigger than liverpool mate, even though manchester united hadnt won the title for 26 years they were still the biggest club in the country, even liverpool fans accepted it, we just said they might be the biggest but we are the best.
anyway spurs havent won the title since their push and run days of the early 60`s and god only knows when newcastle last won the league.
stop being so melodramatic.

I might be off my head, but you need to improve on your comprehension skills. I never said that Newcastle or Spurs are bigger, I said that we are about as big as them at the moment. We're certainly not the big team that we were in the 1970's and 1980's. We've largely regressed over the last twenty years with the odd resurgence here or there. We're not a top side in England anymore, we're near enough a mid-table side who has been fortunate to qualify for Europe's second tier football competition based on our Carling Cup victory. That says everything about the position we currently find ourselves in. As you say though what would be the fate our club now had the club slipped into administration under the cowboys and were deducted 10 points? Lord knows, so I am thankful, however Kenny must get things right in this transfer window. I doubt he'll have as much money to spend as last time, so let's hope he uses this money properly and brings in the much needed quality that we lack, particularly in centre midfield and up top.

i still think we'll finish 6th ahead of newcastle.

the thing is, if we finish 6th and win 2 cups some fans will still see that as failure which to me is ludicrous.

manchester united hardly won anything in the 26 years between their league titles, they certainly didnt win the european cup in that time, they went down a division but even though they were in the second division they were still the biggest club in the country.
we are the second biggest club in the country, thats a fact, if you ask anyone in the game who are the two biggest clubs in england every single one of them will say united and liverpool.
