It was a final, he probably felt s**t because Henderson had such a horrible game and felt he should have started.

Emotion must have got the better of him.

Nevertheless, well done Dirka, Dirka!!!

The problem for me is that Kenny wants to stick by his players and not Rafa's. Sometimes Kenny needs to bite the bullet and play Rafa'a men. I thought Maxi would have caused havoc today with Bellamy on the opposite wing.
Trust me, I think Kennys will come good but sometimes you need to stick to the old guard

????? what are you talking abt ??????
the whole backline bar Jose are all Rafa's men.

Kenny stuck with Downing and he played his best game for us that match. it didnt worked with Hendo though.

i dont think there is Rafa's men or Kenny's men, they are all LFC's men.

Felt sorry for Kuyt really for not starting that game. The bloke in his time here has always given us 110% and has never won a trophy with us. Henderson pops up - does less than Kuyt, plays sh.ite and gets the nod over him and plays s.*i*e. I personally feel sorry for Kuyt, know matter how much I've "bashed" the poor b@rstard in the past. :(

Nice goal, nice pen - Kuyt  :buttrock

I have said it before and it needs to be said again. The manager should only pick the players that deserves to play at the moment. Hendersson and Downing haven't shown anything in ealier games so should be on the bench. Kuyt should get the go ahead before both of them until he or them prooves otherwise.

He thrives under pressure which is why he continually delivers in big games. Played 2 finals, scored in both, scored the pen in the shootout yesterday, and the decisive one in the 2007 CL Semi. Scored last second pen at Everton, late winner against Man U, last second winning goal in the 2007/08 3rd round CL qualifier (that goal alone paid for his transfer fee).. and on and on. His doesnt get 2's and 3's against Crystal Palace or Bolton.. its always the big games. Was watching that greatest managers series on Sky, and Rinus Michels was saying Dutch players enjoy pressure more than any other nationality he has worked with (said Spaniards were easily affected by crowd booing etc). The Dutch are quite sure of themselves, and so when the spotlight is on they thrive even more. Van Basten, Gullit, Bergkamp, Cruyff.. supremely confident.

Watch Dirk lining up the pen (also cleans his boots).. completely clear mind. As nerveless as u can get. Then post match comment stated he knew he had to score or we had lost, the Dutch dont hide from responsibility, they embrace it.

Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt says he could be forced to leave the club if manager Kenny Dalglish does not offer him more playing time next season.

Kuyt has featured in only 29 games in all competitions this season, finding the back of the net four times, while Liverpool struggle in seventh place on the Premier League table. The Dutchman, though, believes the Reds are building a bright future after spending big in recent times, but insists he will exit Anfield if he is not wanted.

"I want to play every game. It is very disappointing when I don't - like the Carling Cup final for instance," Kuyt told MirrorFootball.

"From my point of view I'm feeling really well physically, I don't think I've ever felt stronger, and I'm ready to play games, I am ready to play every game of the season. For me it is all about trying to convince the manager he needs to pick me more than he does at the moment.

"I can see myself staying at Anfield for the rest of my career, as long as I am satisfied and am entitled to play in each game to get to the level I want to be.

"As long as I play as much as I want to play then I will be happy, but if it gets to the point where I am not playing every game any more, then maybe I will have to make another decision - but I don't think about that at this stage."

Kuyt insists better times are ahead for Liverpool, who secured their first trophy in six years when they defeated Cardiff on penalties in the Carling Cup final last month. The Reds are also in line to take out the FA Cup this season, but Kuyt says fans and players alike are right to expect more success.

"We have a sense that we are a coming force, that we are building something special," Kuyt said. "We have a sense that we can do something next season for sure, but we are still in this season, and we still have a chance.

"We cannot give up on any spot in the Premier League and we are still in the FA Cup, so we have to keep fighting this season to deliver. Future wise, I think we will be okay. I think we have much to look forward to, because there is a sense we can go places with this squad, because there are some players with real talent.

"Yet we know as a club how important the top four is to the future - the finances [connected with Champions League qualification] mean you cannot afford to be out of it too long. That is why we have to keep going, and even if we are some points behind now, we can not give up.

"We have to work now by thinking if we get three points at QPR [on Wednesday night] we get a bit closer, and you never know what's going to happen. I came to Liverpool, one of the biggest clubs in the world, to win trophies. So to not win anything for six years is not something I expected.

"I have been close, I have played some big finals, and now I have got that winners' medal in the Carling Cup, and I am really hungry for success to make up for that lost time. It is great to be going to Wembley for the semi, it is a special place for everyone in football, but that is not enough, we have to aim to win the semi, win the FA Cup and find that bit extra to be higher in the league.

"You can say we have had a maddening inconsistency at times, even if we have been unlucky. Maybe that's because we have a lot of young players, a lot of new players at the club, we have to keep playing like that, but take the chances we are creating, and there were signs against Everton and Stoke we are starting to do that.

"We need to find the consistency, and get the points we deserve and we will be there, and we want to be there as soon as possible. In the dressing room, we are not satisfied with what has happened so far."

Understandable... Kuyt offers more than alot of our starters and he couldn't get games because our new recruits were expensive. He can offer more to the team than Adam, Henderson, Downing and Carroll IMHO...

He has been one of my fav players over the last 6 years because of the way he conducted himself as a Liverpool player but he has been awful this season whenever he has started , scored 2 crucial goals as a sub. This summer we should be looking to replace him

If I was Kuyt, and seeing Hendo regularly getting picked instead of me, I'd be looking for pastures new too. Hope he stays. He is a senior pro, a guy who always gives 100%, someone who gives us options up front and on the left and right. And despite a bad season, looks to be coming back to his best to me.

have said for a while that i think he'll leave this summer. given his age i think it makes sense for the club to sell whilst he still has some resale value.
