Baros + alonso, total class.......... - Never mind owen, milan is the man!

Disagree Hustler.

Baros looks promising, but one of my abiding memories of the game was his selfish running into the box when Cisse and Garcia were screaming for the ball. Baros won some free kicks as the Deportivo eventually hacked him down, but if he released the ball a couple of times more to Cisse and Garcia earlier then we may have actually scored against Deportivo.

Running with the ball is good up to a point but the really good players know exactly when to release it, something Baros is disinclined to do at the moment.

Baros better than Owen? You have a short memory. Owen was hit and miss in his last 2 seasons for Liverpool but people forget his remarkable good form before that.

As for Jan Molby, Alonso may eventually be a better player and Molby declined a lot in his last 2 or 3 years at Liverpool when his weight and lack of mobility became a problem (as did his prison spell) but Molby in the mid 1980s was a tremendous passer of a ball in a side that actually won major trophies.

and even in those 2 seasons when he was hit and miss he still scored 40 goals. before that he was just dynamite. watched the 2001-2002 season video last night and he was just lethal. worthy european footballer of the year. baros will never get anywhere near that level.

Now come on, Jan was 25 stone in his prime :D

Alonso isn't as good as him yet but the signs are there.

Jan Molby? Loved the guy! Even when he was too heavy to move fast his ability was put to good use. His passing was so accurate, he didn't need to run fast. (Remember Alec Lindsay? Could pass a ball and drop it on a penny, he was an old fashined left-back.) It was hard to tackle  Molby cos they bounced off him!! Would love him to be employed at Liverpool as a coach. We may then get players who can pass the ball accurately.
Baros? My jury is out on him at the moment. Owen? Class act. I always thought he would be at Liverpool for a long time, so that when he got older, he would be a supporting midfielder with a great ability to cross from the wing. Now that he is at Real, I wish him well.
Well made up he scored in the Champions League!

No need for the comparison. Molby performed a key role for LFC and never let them down. Controlled possession and didn't lose the ball too much. Did they produce Opta stats then ?
He would have to improve his off-field behaviour to compete in todays football, but he would complement Alonso in a theoretical team. But how about Souness and Alonso ?

I think the silver lining with Gerrard getting injured is that Alonso will be able to take up the responsibility in central midield and really settle.
