The thing i understood is why we went out and bought two centre midfielders in Adam and Henderson when we already had Aquilani and Mereiles already on the books. Especially when what we really required was a right winger, a position where stll baly lacking in now.

yet another english player who's a great athlete and overhyped way too early. doesn't know his best position. supposedly a centre back but his positioning is poor so he doesn't play there. he's not a defensive midfielder and he's not an attacking midfielder. nobody knows what he is. but he's english and plays for united so we'll hype him up just like smalling (who i rate but i'd still rather have martin kelly). and don't even get me started on cleverley who's had 2 decent games and is all of a sudden the saviour of united's midfield and the future of english football.

i still wonder what would have happened with jones if he had come here and he'd had the chance to work under steve clarke.

Aquilani didnt want to play for us.  He was desperate to get back to Italy.  There isn't much point in keeping a player that has no desire to play for you.

As for Meireles, nobody really knows for sure why he left.  He wasn't fit during pre season but Kenny was using him from the bench during the opening few games.  He seems to me like he wasn't prepared to fight for a place.

Since Aqua wanted to leave, Stevie was struggling for fitness and there's always a possiblility of serious injury (Lucas), I think we were right to sign CM's.

1 centre midfielder was fair enough, but two? especially considering the fact that we didnt buy a right winger which we needed much more.

Don't get me started on that Jones fella. He said- when the bids started to come in for him including the one from LFC and then eventually signing for the Mwanckers- that he was going to sign  for them as he wanted to win things and that he didn't think LFC would win anything.  I remember the article in the newspapers at the time and thought, you basket....

Glad he didn't come to us in the end.

I doubt there are many players who would join Liverpool over Man Utd right now, there challening for the league every year and have guaranteed champions league football, we probably wont be able to compete with them for players signatures until we get back in the champions league.

just watching newcastle and they're proof of what you get for sticking by players, irrespective of price tags. i'm talking about guitierrez and collocini, who both would have been tarred with the "not good enough" brush 12-18 months ago and yet have come on leaps and bounds.

Shouldn't colocini be on a 4 match ban for elbowing Bellamy and smashing his face open?

I see what you're saying though

You left out a word in your sentence.. Newcastle are proof of what you get by sticking by good players.

Both Collocini and Guitierrez had pedigree before they came to England. Collocini was highly touted since he was a kid at Boca and went to AC Milan, then had a very succesful spell for Deportivo in la liga. Guitierrez has over 20 caps for Argentina (look at the quality they can choose from in midfield).

This "sticking by" phrase often heard about managers and players is bizarre. You dont "stick by" people that are not good enough. Wenger and Ferguson are often brought up as some sort of argument for "sticking by" your manager.... yes.. sticking by good manager. If we had "stuck by" Roy Hodgson we'd have been in a relegation scrap. Should we have stuck by Konchesky? No because hes c'rap.

Lads,

The fans are always the last to see this happening.

We've become Chelsea. Players don't come here for teh football, they come for the money and once here, they don't feel they have to perform.

Newcastle, Swansea, Spurs players, they're hungry. Our lads aren't.

Couldn't disagree more. I would not tar every player with the same brush. Many of them are incredibly hard working professionals.Yes our expectations under Kenny have been very high especially after the second half of last season. With a little bit more luck and tactical awareness we could have quite easily have won at least 4 of the 7 drawn games at Anfield. That would actually put us 5 pints off the top.Ok I know that City have a game in hand but just look how rocky they have been recently and they have spent a net £500m over the last 5/6 years! Things are just not as bad as a lot of people are making out.As supporters we need to keep the faith. It was the supporters that demanded that Kenny was given the job.He was out of management for over 10 years and needs to be given a serious chance of improving our fortunes. The only real major concerns I have are Downing and Carroll.Henderson and Adam will improve.
Net Spend Over The Last 5 Years 20/21 to 24/25  (10 years
are in brackets 15/16 to 24/25 )
LFC €300m (€420m)
Everton +€33m (€211m)
Arsenal €557m (€853m)
Spurs €571m (€684m)
Chelsea €945m (€1051m)
Man City €370m (€1038m)
Man United €687m (€1240m)

Agreed and well said Devaney ( apart from last two sentances of course )

I'm not surprised we have people calling for Kenny's head - it typical of the modern day/Internet/demand instant success fans we currently see in the game.

As good as the 05 win was it brought a long a set of fans who think we should be having instant success and when that doesn't happen the manager must go .
