10 games in, worst summer signing?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

it's depressing to see that -after years of having no investment - we've spent 100+ million and gotten very little back.

Ironicly, it's our two cheapest signings (Bellamy and Enrique) who are the best of our new players. The rest have been pretty awful.

Its very difficult to pick a worst because most of them have been average at best.

Downing, Adam and Carroll are all worth a mention in this thread.  Downing has offered very little so far especially in the last few games.  Adam looks a decent player but doesnt suit the system being used.  Carroll has been pretty useless so far too.

Im usually a positive poster but feck me its getting hard at the minute :(

I;ll lay it on the line as to how I see it right now.

Enrique is a great player who isn't even at his peak yet. Arguably the best in his position in the League and an absolute snip at the price we paid. Bellamy was free and still has a lot to offer but has been criminally underused. Even at his age he's got a better football barin than anybody in our squad bar Suarez and Gerrard.

Adam was always going to split fans when he signed. He was excellent last season at Blackpool but he played in a system that suited him down to the ground (4-3-3) but even then he wasn't voted their player of the season, David Vaughan was as he did the donkey work allowing Adam to excel. He does have a good passing range and his dead ball ability is superb but he can't be considered a regular imo unless we change the system. Adam and Lucas in a two get completely overrun as games go on due to the fact that Adam tires easily and Lucas is not a natural holding midfielder.

Downing started very well but has since struggled to find any sort of form. Having said that he's been unlucky not to score due to the woodwork or have several assist due to poor finishing. He does go missing in games which is a worry but we need to stick him wide left and stop swapping him over to the right all the time. It also doesn't help that when Kuyt and Gerrard aren't playing, we struggle to get enough players in the box on the end of crosses. Bellamy and Maxi are also players who can finish and like to gamble but they find themselves on the bench every week.

Henderson needs to be played more centrally to get the very best out of him imo as he's been almost invisible out wide for long spells. He looked more threatening in his cameo against United when he could easily have scored twice than at any point in his Liverpool career. Whether he should be starting is debatable but I still like the kid as he has a good pass and move game and is still developing. I'm personally not bothered about the price tag at this stage.

Carroll is the most difficult one because once again the guy came with a huge price tag which is not his fault. His performances have improved recently and he's scored a couple despite missing a couple of sitters. I'd be more worried if he wasn't getting into the positions. Even Suarez has missed several sitters this season.

I had really high expectations of Charlie Adam, and he's been so (albeit from a few games ) disappointing .

I'd have to go with Adam, you can't take prices into consideration when you're discussing this type of thing.  When you take the prices out it's Adam every time, he's been given by far the most opportunities to show improvement/prove his worth and he simply isn't good enough in a 4-4-2 setup.  At least Henderson has been shown the bench same as Carroll, Adam just isn't doing enough to warrant his spot but somehow his name is in the XI every single game.
