Wilshere- all hype no substance yet... really? :D

Ok he is injury prone but in terms of footballing intelligence he is a few notches above Lucas imo. Your right though, he's probably about Fletchers level.

Wilshere has a long way to go to fulfil his hype - anytime I have seen him he looks nothing but ordinary .

Your right Lucas is at Fletchers level - the same Fletcher who consistently starts for the current prem winners ( when fit ) and has done for seasons and even taggert says is one of their most important players .

Credible people are one's who are in the profession and being successful in that profession - not Internet fans on a forum .

Mash and Alonso are history , you don't have to have the new player in the prem for them to be good enough . They are all part of a team - the sum of all the parts - if you are old enough to remember the 80's , Kenny wasn't about flooding teams with world stars it was about getting players to fit in a team and to work in a team - we have always been about the sum of all the parts and Lucas is a big part - he isn't a Masher or an Alonso he is Lucas who constantly improves and shows he is good enough to be in our team .

Our team in the 80's would wipe the floor with this current side. Is Downing better than Barnes, Lucas better than Mcmahon? etc ofcourse there not the Liverpool sides of the 80's had loads of top players. To win the big trophys you have to have top players, we simply dont have enough of them, thats why we finish outside the top 4. Personally i beleive with Lucas in the starting line up we could possibly get back in the top four, but we would never challenge for a league title.

Lucas is a future Brazil and LFC captain

Do you honestly think he would'nt get a game for MU, :censored: or Chelski?
when players like Anderson, Song and Mikel play regularly.

Some of the $hit that kid had to put up with, to come back from that, stand tall and end up being one of the best DM in the league.

Well Done Lucas!

What do you class as talent?

Spraying a 40 yard cross-field pass?

Curling a 25 yard free kick into the top corner?

Well, Lucas doesn't do that, he keeps the ball ticking, he tracks runs, he closes down opposition, he sets tempo,

Makelele, Dunga, Deschamp, Lucas Leiva

Talentless water-carriers

Sorry but I would never put Makalele or Deschamp in the same bracket as Lucas. Come on please. If he was that good we wouldn't even be having this conversation.

Thre three players you mentioned were all better than Lucas
Im not saying he doesnt do a job. He just doesnt do it very good.
If hes a water carrier than hes leaving puddles all over the place.
I like him, I really do. But I wont kid myself that hes better than he is. He is average and we need a good, solid holding midfielder. Someone mentioned Ronnie Whelan as a comparison. Ronnie Whelan was 10 times the player that Lucas is.
I agree he has improved and he is better than he used to be. But hes annoying, predictable and sloppy. I wish he could become the player we need but I honestly doubt it.

I'm sorry, but you have to compare him to a 24y/o Deschamps and Makelele not the experienced 30+ that we fondly remember

Lucas is 24

On 17th April, during Liverpool's 1-1 draw against Arsenal at Emirates Staidum, Lucas played a pivotal role in ousting out Cesc Fàbregas in midfield, whilst showing a deft touch in the dying moments to earn his side a freekick in the last minute. His quick reaction time to then reach the loose ball from the resulting free kick, under which he was then tackled in the penalty area, earned his side a penalty, which Dirk Kuyt converted.

Following the game, Kenny Dalglish praised "...he may be the one who stops the guy (opponent) going past the first fella then sets us on our way (creates attacks)," drawing growing comparisons to Xavi and 1994 World Cup winner and captain, Dunga.

On 24 May, Lucas was voted the Standard Chartered Fans player of the year for the 2010-11 season, winning 40% of the 129,774 votes cast.

He also made the most tackles in the top 4 European leagues in the 2010-2011 season.[B]

$*i*e that Lucas
