LUCAS LEIVA - OFFICIAL THREAD

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Everyone sees the game and players differently and I think opinion is split down the middle on Lucas. For me he is not good enough and until hes replaced I think the side will continue to fall that bit short. We need to be moving the ball much quicker through the centre and closing out the opposition early and I dont beleive Lucas can do that well enough. He slows the tempo right down. His work is way too ponderous not to mention sloppy for the most part and its gone on way too long. We need athletes and technicians in there who can really stamp authority on games and Lucas just cannot offer that.

I heard someone saying that we didn't give away many free kicks against Norwich without Lucas on the field.  Is that a good thing though?  Perhaps we just didn't make the tackles...

The lack of a quality holding midfielder who can tackle properly

You must be thinking of someone else as Lucas has done that job extremely well over the last 18 months - in fact been one of our most consistent performers over the last 18 months .

Should we swap him for Mikel or Anderson or Carrick ?

That just shows you need to pop to specsavers because everything you say he cant do he has been doing it consistently well over the last 18 months .

Here is a little scenario for you

Saturdays Game - Adam picks the ball up just outside his own area , he then goes to carry and dribble the ball up the field , he is easily tackled on the halfway line and falls over - the Norwich CM passes the ball out wide ( Adam still on the floor ) - the wide player crosses the ball ( Adam just getting up ) and the striker ghosts in and scores with a header - two points dropped .

Now replace Adam with Lucas and

1. He wouldnt of dribbled the ball up field and lost it as easily as Adam did

2. He would of bust a gut to get back and try and protect the back four and tracked the guy coming in the middle

Ie they wouldnt of scored . No two points dropped . All three points to Liverpool - we win . End of

You are joking. Arent you...? ???
The amount of times I have seen Lucas give the ball away, fall over, give free kicks by our box and contribute to a goal against us is phenomenal.
As far as tracking back is concerned. That is one of the worst elements of his game
GYBS. Always the jester

I'm deadly serious - you can level those accusations at him a couple of seasons ago but not anymore . You should start watching Liverpool again and you will see for yourself .

I am borderline obsessive. If Im not at the match, I watch them in the pub. If Im not in the pub, I'll watch them on the telly. If theyre not on the telly, I watch it online. I have LFC TV on constantly, much to the annoyance of her indoors who often asks me "havent you seen this before?" and "dont you get fed up watching this again and again?"
I am not falling for the "Lucas is a great player" and "integral to our team" viewpoint. I can see what he does and he does not impress me. If he was to leave tomorrow I dont think we would suffer that much, if at all. He is average rather than sh'ite these days, but Im afraid this is the best were going to see from him. A good holding midfielder who can tackle is what we desperately need. Instead weve got Lucas.

Lucas isnt exactly a worldclass player, but his job is made much harder with the players around him. Adam is slow and his positioning is weak, and our CB's are sitting so deep there is a huge space the opposition can exploit. Any team with a decent midfield can walk all over ours as we have seen quite a few times. Considering the amount of space Lucas is supposed to cover he is doing a good job, or at least better than anyone else we have in that position. I would not mind getting masch back though.

If your claims are true then I suggest you get yourself an appointment at Specsavers .

Werent Lucas voted player of the season last season? The same player thats been consistently picked ahead of others by 3 Liverpool managers and the Brazil manager? Who (far be it from me to doubt peoples assessment qualities) probably know the game far better than us guys that sweep roads, process mortgages, build cars, claim social or plan midnight raids on empty buildings ever will? Just a thought like.
Stu Averill, a wannabe Scouse/Scot. I remember the good times & have faith in them comin back

Beside the Hillsborough Flame, I heard a Koppite mournin, "Why so many taken on that day?" Justice has never been done. But their memory we'll carry on. There'll be Glory Round The Fields Of Anfield Road

Youre a funny guy

I really dont like criticising LFC players. Especially ones who are nice guys and try their best. Lucas is a hell of a nice guy who loves us and he does try his best. I just wish his skill matched his enthusiasm
