we have to push for 4th or just dont bother qualifying for europe at all.
i do miss us playing in europe but not that excuse of a competition called the europa league.its a stoopid comp with a ridiculous format and its never been won by a team that hasnt come in at the latter stages from the cl.
if we dont finish in the top 4 then i couldnt care less where we end up as long as it isnt below 17th.
europa league? no thanks.

Im of the same opinion. To be perfectly honest, if we cant achieve 4th given the spending in the past 18months and the other circumstances in the league that seemed to play in our favor (Arsenal selling their best players and Tottenham not spending) then serious questions need to be asked of our management.

4th was a realistic and achievable target for this season but you have to believe that the owner are thinking of bigger and better things for the near future. It doesnt bode well for our future plans (whether stadium, higher caliber recruits, or even future spending) if we cant get into the top4 this season and you have to think that perhaps they would think that a change of management would be the way forward. That poses its own list of potential problems.. Do we spend more and back the manager further in January or should we wait to see if our current investment in players pays off..

Chelski & Manc U lost but Man City (6-1!!) Tottenham, Newcastle & Arsenal all won this weekend. We really need to pick up full points because that top 4 spot is starting to look like a distant memory.

agree we had the edge over both those teams with our spending and i do think we have strenghtened the squad with what we have spent its just that they havent hit the heights expected of them yet.i dont believe its the case that what we see is the best we are gonna get from the new signings either.they will improve and are a decent squad but were still the lacking 2 or 3 quality players we need to carry this team further.
fsg surely have a plan for us and hopefully that includes off the field investment as well as what they have already invested into the team.
how ever its probably based over a number of years and whether that includes the current coaching staff is anyones guess but at the moment i believe they are 100% behind kk and will make a signing or 2 in jan to help us push for that spot.
henry seems sharper than the average tool and im sure he's gaining knowledge of the way football works all the time and should something need to be done with the manager then he will do it but never during a season unless he has no choice.

I put 5th when the question was first asked and I maintain it until we develop a killer instinct. We're going to be throwing countless points away.

With over 120 million invested and if still fail to finish 4th spot and esp. if 4th spot was achieved by Newc, Spurs or :censored:

who didn't invest that ridiculous amount of money, I think Kenny's job could be at risk at end of the season.

It is sad to see that he cannot seem to repeat the successes of his 1st tenure here.

Well, nowadays it is a ruthless business. if you waste away money you will quickly be held accountable.
Investing 100 million and fare no better than last season would be close to a disaster. Henderson has not been an upgrade on Maxi, Adam hasn't been an upgrade on Meireles etc etc.
We can't go on for decades saying we lack 2-3 quality players ffs.

Looking at the league table is very frustrating this morning. If only we'd taken more points from games like Sunderland, Stoke and Norwich we'd be up there challenging with the Mancs and Chelsea.

Instead we find ourselves in real need of 3 points against West Brom this weekend. We need to start taking our chances and killing off games when we're dominating

And that is the key
We have been dominating teams but not being ruthless enough. Last season we were being dominated, by many of the sh'it teams as well. All this doom and gloom is laughable and it never ceases to amaze me the pure joy some people get in being miserable.
Yes we should have more points. Yes we have let teams off the hook. But we have seen a vast improvement this year on the last so lets start thinking positively about the next 29 (YES 29) games we have left in the league.
The skanks got absolutely tw@tted by city and I believe there is a change in order. Purple nose stated clearly that they are no longer invincible with his team selection against us. He played his best attacking formation yesterday with the players available (except for hernandez?) and was found out big time. City havent had their blip yet and are the new darlings of the press. Lets see what happens when the fixtures pile up and the winter sets in...
I am going to put a bet on us winning the league at 50-1. For all those who laugh, dont forget we were absolute no-hopers of getting to the final, never mind winning the CL in 2005 and look what happened there!

9 games in. Are you for real? I don't expect us to win the league this season. I said top 4 from the start but come on, are you serious? 9 games in and because we haven't collected as many points as we should have, you think Kenny will be off/removed?

The game has totally changed from Kenny's '1st tenure'.

Everyone goes on about £100 million but what about the £50 million we got for Torres?

So a quarter of the season in and nothing has changed from my perspective. I still see 4th a minimum expectation and a completely realistic one.

Man City and Man Utd are still running away with it. Chelsea are still strong but have moments of weakness, enough to prevent them winning the title but not missing out on the top 4. Which leaves ourselves, Arsenal and Tottenham for 4th.

if anything all three looking for 4th (us, Arsenal and Spurs) look vulnerable to dropping points, which will no doubt leave for a tense finish. We do however have the added bonus that our squad should hold up better with no European football to worry about. Harry Redknapp has clearly identified the Europa league as a distraction when you see some of the teams Tottenham have fielded so far.

I still fancy us in the long run for fourth. We've yet to hit top gear and we always have a strong finish to the season.

Whether or not the owners are looking to change the manager, we need to buy in January IMO. This need for complete rebuilding whenever a new manager is ridiculous. We have bought young talents for long term team building... Not just for Kenny's reign IMO...

there's not a cat in hell's chance that newcastle will stay up there. they've not played anyone yet aside from spurs and the worst arsenal team in years.

spurs are the ones to worry about. arsenal are screwed in van persie gets an injury which he inevitably will. spurs have a really good squad and grind out results.
