Kenny, you must know that today's football players esp. the foreign imports are mercenaric and will not stay long in a club that offers no CL football. If we continue to struggle in our games esp. away games and without much prospect of a top 4 finish, they will opt for the clubs that can provide CL.

Suarez did say that a move to Barcelona would be his dream move. Doesn't that tell you that if we don't at least qualify for CL every season and if the 2 big guns Spanish clubs want him, he'll take it like a shot. Most of the star names are in the rich clubs playing for CL.

This time last year, who would have thought Torres would be sold in Jan and Mereiles sold at end of Aug. And from an Arsenal perspective, they would not have guessed Nasri and Fabregas would be sold. So we can never tell what's around the corner for these foreign star players.

So if by Christmas, notice I use the word 'if', we are miles behind our rivals in the race for 4th, I am sure Suarez will consider his options. I would if I were him who is not a Liverpool fan but joined Liverpool hoping for CL football, but as a die hard fan, I hope to see him here for the rest of his playing days.

It was clear to a blindman on a galloping horse that Torres was extremely disappointed once Benitez was sacked and Hodgson became manager. It was inevitable that he would go because it was clear to see he was very unhappy. This was evident in his performances and behaviour.
Miereles was also frustrated and unhappy at what he saw as his place in the starting line up being under threat from the new arrivals. This was proven by him being left out in games while others were chosen before him. He wanted first team football and has been given this by chelsea,
Suarez is happy, contented and assured of his place in the team and in our hearts. He gets us and we get him. He scored in the derby and has recently stated that he doesnt expect too much too soon. He will be here for years
Trust me

And Torres was supposed to be a fan... Nope I can't trust you on this one, unless you are revealed to be a psychic. That Judas betrayal is still fresh... He was very very successful playing for us and rises to a world premier striker playing for us and he threw it all away lol...

C'mon :)
If we fail to qualify for the CL this and next season he'll be gone at the latest that summer, you can qoute me on that.
He won't wait 3-4 years just be playing in the CL. Players of his calibre will move to play in the CL, just how it works.

Exactly! I totally agree. This is not the 80s anymore and the Kenny factor is not enough. We also need multi trillionaire owners like Man City and CL football every season to get the star names and to stand any chance of winning the league. History and the past achievements are only for the nostalgic old timer fans but do not count for young talented foreign stars.

The irony is that Torres felt betrayed because of promises made to him. Torres had made up his mind to leave as soon as Benitez went. He was here preseason and played up to Christmas but the writing was on the wall. He had made his decision and he wouldnt change it
Suarez is totally different and is under no illusions how hard it will be to qualify for the CL. He will staywhether or not we get 4th. But we will anyway

lol he gets us and we get him, we said the same about Torres, how gullible can we be, are we really going to fall for all that all over again.

I don't think there is any chance of him leaving this January or in the summer, but he will certainly be off not long after that if we don't start getting into the CL at least

I was as gutted as anyone when Torres decided to fu'ck off. But we werent gullible. We were right to idolise and love him. Unfortunately we loved him too much and felt like jilted brides at the alter, which is where the hatred has come from. He just felt betrayed and made a decision he wouldnt go back on. He could have changed his mind when KK came in but he was already committed to going.
But now there is no Benitez or twit and tw@t. It is a totally different situation with the owners and the manager and Suarez has come in with his eyes open and his feet on the ground.

Suarez has been here half a season.. Torres was here for 4 years before he left.  Suarez is happy with how things are going.  We show progression, he'll more then likely stick around to see where it goes.  He loves the attention he's getting, and the fact he played a big part in getting Coates here shows that he doesn't plan on leaving.

He said we aren't title contenders this year, and that's realistic.  We are Cl contenders tho.  If we qualify this year, he will be thrilled, and next year we can push on for more.  From the sound of it he will be really happy if we win any cups at all.  It seems he understands the important of the English league, and that winning anything really is a big deal.

As long as things continue to go the way they have been going, he'll be here for awhile.

FFS dave, what do you expect?? you come on a liverpool forum, all 'respectful' and everything and respectfully point out to us lot who live and breath the club that we are actually quite mediocre. what was it that gave you this incredible urge to come over here and say that? and why are you so surprised that we didn't all just smile sheepishly and say 'you know what, mate - thanks for that. you're right'?

we know that we aren't as good as we used to be, and we know that we need to put in some work to get back there. you'll also see that the vast majority of us are realistic about the situation and that we don't live in the past. we also know that we have an excellent manager who is respected by most people in football. we have quality owners. we also have a sprinkling of genuine class, and a few others who are good or at least promising. the potential is there if we manage it properly. we'd probably happily take modric or bale off your hands.... and maybe sandro.... but that's about it, ta.

you might have thought you were coming over here to make a friendly point, but when you go onto another club's forum and start making unprovoked comments about their their shortcomings then you are hardly going to be mr popular are you? think about it for a second and then bugger off back to your own forums and fantasise about what a massive and successful club you're going to be.

That was a fair point.

I feel a bit bad now.

That said, I think a few of you Liverpool fans need to wake up a bit.

Your squad is very ordinary.

Your first 11 is ordinary.

I completely respect your club's history, but right now you are not a threatening prospect for any decent Premier League side.

................blah blah blah......................

I genuinely think you have literally no chance at finishing top 4 this year.

At a time when our club is emerging from one of the most troubled periods in it's history it's not surprising that some of our fans are showing great enthusiasm concerning the prospects for our club, just as you are Tottenham Dave with your implied suggestion that Spurs are much better than us and will finish above us in the league.

You suggest that some of us "Liverpool fans need to wake up a bit", personally I don't feel that a top four finish for our club is an unrealistic expectation, it won't be easy and I do expect Spurs and one or two others will be up there with us battling for a CL spot.

Like most teams we do need to introduce a bit more "quality" into the squad but I find your description of our first eleven, one that when fully fit contains three world class players (Gerrard, Suarez and Reina) plus six or seven experienced internationals as "ordinary" frankly laughable.

You give us some flannel about respecting our history but then dismiss us out of hand as contenders for the top four.

Never mind delving into the mists of time to examine our respective histories just a glance at Liverpools and Spurs achievements in the 19 years since the start of the premiership should prompt you perhaps to show a bit more respect and certainly be more cautionary before you write us off.

seasons '92/93 to date

Liverpool                              Spurs

1 Champions League trophy       0

1 Uefa Cup                              0

2 FA Cups                                0

3 League Cups                         2

2 European Supercups               0

12 top four finishes                  1

In the last two seasons your club has improved, finishing above us on both occasions (the only occasions since the start of the premiership), I won't completely write off your chances of repeating that feat but your assertion that Liverpool have " literally no chance at finishing top 4 this year" suggests to me that it's you who needs to "wake up a bit".

As the saying goes, "form is temporary, class is permanent" .

Your team may be showing some good form Tottenham Dave but like you, very little class.

:kungfu:

thats a bit harsh woof :eyebrow .
dont forget all the other great trophies they won.

Just as an aside...

I think it's important to remember that football is a glory game.

It isn't as simple as just numbers.

A few people here tried to punch Tottenham in to the ground by simply posting Liverpool's trophies versus Tottenham's, but numbers don't actually mean that much.

It's all about events in football, stand out glory moments.

Were you there? moments.

I'll give you an example.

Arsenal are our biggest rivals, no doubt about, everyone knows that.

When the 1991 season came to it's close, Arsenal walked the league. They lost only one game all season, and my beloved Tottenham were, lets face it, s*ite.

It just happened that we got drawn with each other for the first time ever in a FA Cup semi and it was huge.

It was so big that the FA (in those days a bunch of in the past old farts) decided that it needed to be moved to Wembley.

Spurs lined up against an impossible to beat Arsenal team - it was a done deal, the result was a forgone conclusion...

And then one Paul Gascoigne turned up and slapped them in the face.

An ordinary Tottenham side controlled the (at the time) most comprehensive winners of the English league in comfort.

And Gazza scored one of the greatest goals Wembley ever saw.

I'd wager a bet that none of you can remember a single moment from Arsenal's league win that season, not a thing.

But I bet every one of you knows Gazza's freekick.

That is what football is about.

It's too easy to just copy and paste winning numbers and years, it's the glory that matters.

My club ain't won s*it of note, but we have many a glory night.

Again, I apologise for my misguided bravado earlier, I didn't mean to offend.

It's just I AM TOTTENHAM and I will stand by it to the end.

Respect.
