Andy Carroll signs for West Ham

The Premiership - General Discussion

thought he played well today, his best game this season by a long shot.
he was everywhere, showed for every ball, got himself into some good positions, and tracked back lots.
he was unlucky not to score with the header, but should have done a little better at the end when he had a chance but failed to get a shot off.
good game from him today

Good game today. The problem with Carroll for me remains pretty much the same. Hes being asked to play much deeper than he should be and despite things going relatively well for him today his performance and contribution seemed a bit too labored that it cant be expected consistently.
Suarez will almost always make the horizontal runs rather than the vertical ones and that leaves Carroll having to come deep to linkup play (mainly due to the absence of an attacking midfielder with drive) rather than operate where hes most comfortable and thats inside the box. In many occasions, his contribution to the linkup play prevented him from taking up good positions inside the box to get to the end of crosses or provide the extra body in the box.

Regardless, he had a good game and hopefully its a sign of better things to come from him. I still feel the manager has a lot of work to do to get Carroll playing at his best again but the Downing sticking to the left flank bit was (if nothing else) a sign that hes attempting to address the situation.

you've got to be joking? honestly it's clear as day to me that some people just don't like the bloke. he looked a lot fitter today to me and he did just about everything but score.

all in all a distinct improvement but can still do better.

He looked more up for it today. Agree with RBG's sentiments though. Maybe Stevies return could have a positive knock on effect. As for Kenny persevering with him, as long as we are winning ive got no problem with Kenny giving him games. We did after all pay a lot for him.

Agree, I'd say Kenny was like playing Russian Roulette in replacing our best player of the day with Gerrard when Wolves were looking likely to get an equaliser. It would have been fine had we been leading 2-0. Our attacking flair would have been better with Suarez and Stevie together.

Looks like Kenny is a man who takes risk. I think a Suarez Bellamy partnership up front would have been more threatening.

Cant see what the fuss is about, did Kenny take off Suarez and put a 3 month old baby wrapped in blanklets in his place?

Come on lads, time to focus on positives rather than follow the mob slagging on the pony tailed pretender.

He probably had his best game for us, and I think that his kind of play is ideally suited to play against the like of Wolves, and for that matter Everton. I stlll think he is not fully fit yet, (I hope so any way, as he labours around the pitch), and we have not seen him at his Newcastle best yet.

Carroll is definitely a work in progress
I know that will infuriate all those who are obsessed with his price tag. They, understandibly want the finished article who score a hat trick every game.
Lets get real lads (and ladies). Carroll has much to learn about playing for LFC. It will take time, but judging from yesterdays performance, maybe not too much? I am as frustrated as anyone with some of the things he does or doesnt do, but yesterday he was more of a team player and we won because of his influence. Wolves were moaning how he pushed the defender which led to the first goal. Thats good, surely? He hit the post but stuck at it and made their back four work hard. Again, thats good isnt it? OK he didnt score, but lets not focus on his Fu*king cost again and look at his worth for the team yesterday.
Lower your expectations and you will see a different player. Maybe then he will play better and help us acheive a trophy or two?

Carroll is and always was a work in progress but the real question is the decison by the club to recruit him and at that price. I have no qualms with the lad himself at all, hes clearly working hard and doing his best with the management reporting they are happy with him. I would also say that Fenway themselves are a work in progress given they are new to the game and if perhaps this deal has been an eye opener for them, a learning curve. We all know that in reality young footballers can take time to bed in, find their feet, but when you enter into a deal like Carroll it comes with negative PR baggage if and when that happens. For one is it worth the flack and secondly can we afford to be patient. I understand the long term policy is key to the owners, no quick fix, however its very difficult to pull off in the modern game and Carroll is really the unltimate test of that policy and if its got any worth at all.

Then patience is the key and expecting him to score every game is unrealistic and unhelpful.
Putting aside his cost for a while might be beneficial and if he plays like he did yesterday consistently then maybe he will show his worth.
A centre forwards game isnt all about goals. If he drags two players with him wherever he goes then he has given space to the likes of Suarez for him to put the ball in the net. If that helps us win whats the problem?
Its a team game after all

I thought he was really really good, he was making plays with his head, his feet and defensively.. Like Kenny said he did everything except score a goal which I think he could have done at the very end if his confidence weren't so low, he made it complicated instead of just smashing it into the back of the net.

Good game from Carroll. Made up for him. Time to give the guy some slack
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On
