Andy Carroll signs for West Ham

The Premiership - General Discussion

speaking of partnerships id still persist with carroll and suarez but have downing on the left and bellamy on the right supplying the ammo with hopefully stevie in the hole behind the front two.
at the weekend id love to see.
                                                          reina.
          kelly                             carra                coates                enrique.

                                                       lucas.

          bellamy                                                                         downing.
                                                    gerrard.
                                                                  suarez.
                                            carroll.
benching carroll isnt going to do anyone any favours and probably further shatter his confidence.he's getting enough stick over his pricetag as it is and he could do without kenny showing a lack of confidence in him also.with gerrard back in the side the rest will up their game to follow suit.

Gotta agree with that..

I really dont understand how Kenny expects Carroll to make an impact when asking him to come deep and contribute in building up play rather than staying upfront and looking for the ball inside the box. Its unfair on the kid and it does his confidence (and the fans confidence in him) no favors putting him out there week in week out setting him up for failure.

We dont have wide players who are good at carrying/dribbling the ball and delivering good ball in the box, and the one player we have who can potentially do that is not being asked to. I dont buy into the whole Henderson/Downing providing from wide areas stuff because in reality things arent that simple. Henderson lacks any sort of pace or trickery and the chances of him putting in  decent crosses consistently without being able to beat a man are slim to say the least.

That said, I expect the return of Gerrard and Johnson to be the catalyst to a new and improved Carroll... With the drive through the middle that Gerrard provides, and Johnson's runs on and off the ball down the flank, our wide players should have more space and time to pick out better crosses and thats where Carroll's aerial presence becomes a factor.

Hes a poor poor player outside the box, but his heading is excellent and he has a good strike on him which makes him a handful inside the box. Unless we decide to play to his strengths, we shouldn't be starting him.

I agree, Caroll has to be used inside the box. Any defense in the league will find it hard to contain him. Problem is Downing is being misused and Henderson can't get past a player so Caroll will be starved for service.

Why don't we ever buy midfielders with trickery and pace???
Sick and tired of hearing the player works hard, the player puts in a good shift etc etc. When will I hear a player in our team being good at getting past his man and getting in crosses or shots?

I'd love to see us buy midfielders with trickery and pace and I'm sure Comolli and Kenny would love to, but without CL football it is hard to buy such players.

Yup, except that CL gives us an advantage of getting a better player who wants to play in a team which is in the Champions League

Ya we can keep on spending money on every transfer window if the owner allows but the point is, without CL football, star names are hard to get.

Are you telling me no midfielders, with trickery and pace in the whole world at all, are available??

Of course there are, just have to look for them. But they sure as **** won't be british cause they are not available. But there has to be others. If Suarez as a forward didn't need CL why shouldn't there be midfielders of his class that are willing to come.

That we have wasted almost 100 million on average doesn't mean there isn't class out there. I don't buy it.

Ignoring your "Wasted 100 million"  bit for now, instead of this broadbrush "Of course there are, just have to look for them.."

Okay well for starters, why don't you give us some names of players that you think would improve our midfield...And please tell us how or why you think they would come to LFC at the present time.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

That's a pretty open ended question and being fans how are we supposed to be able to gauge the motivations of players? Putting aside our history for starters we have owners who are here for the long term and want to see us pushing for the title within a few years.
My new blog for my upcoming holiday.

Tubby, in terms of football generations mate, our history is now 'ancient history'.  2005 is already 'history'.

I remember the 1971 FA Cup final which is now the Dark Ages in footbal terms.

100 millions wasted? Come on now, we should give the team a chance to grow together. But I believe we've wasted 35 million... That was a huge gamble that's now looking like a bad gamble... If you're gonna spend 35 million dollars on one player, quality is not that hard to find really CL football or not...
